Anywhere else in CZ besides Prague?

Due to BA's nonsense with striking, I'm looking to extend Prague, I've spent hours on the phone to various travel agents this evening already. I've just thought about this (instead of Berlin) - are there any other destinations (with comfortable hotels) in the Czech Republic that would be worth visitng?

Check out Thingorjus' recent Prague trip report as he really enjoyed Cesky Krumlov.

Brno has several good hotels- e.g. Grand hotel in city centre, Holiday Inn near the exhibition centre and some interesting churches and other sights, also good shopping. Prices here are much, much less than in Prague. I believe there is a good bus service between the two cities, it takes about 2 hours to drive.

I'm not sure you'd find Brno very interesting.

It depends how far from Prague you want to go and how to get there--I did like Cesky Krumlov and think they have a couple hotels at 4* level around there, but that's pretty away in southern CR and I don't know how those hotels compare to the same level in a major city.

I'd probably recommend the spa town Karlovy Vary which isn't that far from Prague and they have some comfortable hotels, like the Grandhotel Pupp

Dresden would also be a possibility as it's only a few hours from Prague by train. I have a German friend who regards that as her favorite German city.

I was considering Dresden, but what is the shopping like there?

It's been 8 years, but we loved Cesky Krumlov (stunning city) and Telc (quieter and lovely.) I wouldn't recommend Brno. We spent a day and a half there, it seemed like the town was a large conference center for businessmen.

I can heartily recommend an upscale B&B called Buchlov Park, near Buchlovice, in Moravia. From it one could drive on day trips to Lednice, Valtice, Uheriske Hradiste. It has a pool, horses, and is maybe 600' from Buchlov Castle. Great food.

Hi m_kingdom2,
I have not given up hope of bumping into you next week on our prague trip.
However I suspect we won't be going to the same places.
Could I suggest you visit Lidice and Terezin, just to try to pull you back down to earth a little.
;-)

cesky krumlov is an excellent place to visit and stay...it is changing fast so go now...

dresden is also a nice alternative to the NW of prague...i'm not sure the shopping there is any better than elsewhere in germany but the musuems and restorations there are first class...

a good B&B on the tram line in dresden is: Pension am grossen garten on beilstr.---70E for double with fantastic breakfast
