Anyone with experience with Hotel du Champs de Mars

Does anyone have any experience with Hotel du Champs de Mars, I emailed them twice already to ask how far in advance we should make our reservations and they have not answered.

Is there may a better place to stay around Rue Cler, Hotel Leveque doesn't have very good reviews. I like the price for Hotel du Champs de Mars but if they can't answer me then there must be a problem.

It's also possible they don't have any room anymore. My sisters had the same problem when they were looking for a place to stay in Paris for a day or two in the last minute. It's better to call them.

suze1 Jul 2nd, 2008 09:15 AM

That's not the case here, I don't need the room until April 26, 2009. I just wanted to know how far in advance I should be making the reservations. It seemed that right now was rather early to make them.

StCirq Jul 2nd, 2008 09:22 AM

They're probably not answering because that's so far ahead it seems bizarre to them. They're no doubt busy with more immediate matters, and the French are notoriously bad about responding to faxes and emails anyway, IME.

Just call them.

We were in Paris near the end of May and stayed at the Hotel Muguet that is very near the Hotel Champs du Mars (also I have stayed at the Champ... in the past) I am pretty sure that the hotel is currently under renovation and possibly closed. At any rate, we like the Hotel Muguet - it is in the same area and although its rates have gone up this season, its still decently priced (most rooms 130E). One other thought, in the past I have had trouble with responses from European hotel inquiries ending up in my "spam" folder which I was not checking (I'm on AOL) so you might want to look in your spam folder for a reply from Champs du Mars, or if you send a request to Muguet.

I looked up Hotel Muguet but with the dollar being so weak it's too expensive.

It doesn't have anything on the hotel's web site about renovations. I did check my SPAM folder. They're just not answering.

Hotel Champ du Mars is rumored to have a rather tight booking calendar, won't take reservations very far out but, on the other hand, fills up quickly once they open the books.

Hotel Valadon is one street over..

Hotel de la Paix(Eiffel)is further toward Champ de Mars...

We stayed at the Hotel du Champs de Mars in November 05. I distinctly remember trying to book my hotel around March of that year and receiving an email from them telling me to wait and send in another reservation request closer to our travel date. I waited until about 3-4 months out and then contacted them again.

By the way, we were very pleased with the hotel. The rooms were small but very pretty and nicely decorated. We had a view of the top of the Eiffel Tower, which we loved.

Good luck!

we stayed at the Hotel de Londres Eiffel last month and were very pleased. My review is posted on tripadvisor.

I don't think they would book anyone this far in advance, so I'd just wait until Fall at least. However, I can understand you want an answer and I have had problem with French hotels not responding to emails, also, if it isn't in their interest. Particularly something that is just a question. Not all, of course, some respond very well, but I was surprised once at how many hotels I added up that didn't respond to room inquiries one summer from Provence and it was within normal time frame and I was asking for vacancies on a specific date, no general questions.

I had absolutely no better luck FAXing than emailing, in fact worse (which doesn't surprise me since that costs money for them to respond, and for me, more time to draw up a FAX than do an email).

I have only had that problem with very small hotels, bigger ones have more normal standards for customer service in many cases. But those hotels over there are all going to be small in your bracket, so that won't help, just an observation. There are quite a few other choices in that area, but the Champs de Mars is about the lowest, I think.

You can also try the Hôtel de France, 102 Boul. de la Tour Maubourg, just a couple of blocks away.

If you want to be on Rue Cler, we have stayed twice at the Leveque, and were satisfied. However, we are not fussy in this regard: reasonable bed, adequate bathroom, and clean are about all we need.

We have stayed at this hotel several times and they will not book a room too far ahead. We also had no luck with email replies. The owners speak English so try to call about four months out. We were in Paris in May and walked past C du M and they were painting the exterior--price on door listed at 90 euros for double room. Very reasonable.

If they do not answer closer to the time I'm staying I will try the other suggested hotels.

Since a lot of you seem to have stayed in that area what is the best transportation from CDG to one of these hotels. I certainly would prefer a taxi, we'll be arriving on a Sunday morning, just wondering how much more expensive a taxi is compared to a shuttle.

suze Jul 2nd, 2008 11:49 AM

My guess is it's simply way too far in advance for them to be taking reservations.

julie_Colorado Sep 2nd, 2008 08:29 AM

I guess April 2009 could be considered early... but I requested a twin bedded room at the Hotel du Champ de Mars for late March/Early April 2009. They responded same day and indicated they were holding the last twin bedded room for this timeframe.

I agree that perhaps you should call. It doesn't seem it is too early.

You asked about airport transportation. The above is a private vehicle service. They will be waiting at the immigration exit door with your name on a sign, take your luggage to the nearby vehicle and take you to your hotel/apt. No calls to make, no going to wherever for a taxi etc. Pay them in cash..may have credit card by Spring. The price may even be cheaper than a taxi. Excellent service. I am using them again for my arrival on the 11th..even get a discount because I have used them before..can't do better...
Enjoy............

Julie, did you email off their reservation web site for the Hotel CChamps de Mars? I'm going to try again right now and if they do not respond I will call them on Monday.

suze1 Sep 8th, 2008 10:17 AM

Gracejoan3, did you arrange the transportation by email, also, I'm assuming you don't tip them at 55 euros. Right!

julie_Colorado Sep 10th, 2008 04:55 AM

I did email them from the web site... and have actually done it a few times since - and they always respond within 24 hours. So I'm not sure what is happening to you (unless they ignore emails if they do not have a room available?).
