Just to reiterate, be sure to turn Data Roaming Off. I forgot to do that recently when in the Dominican Republic, and about two minutes of use cost me $78! It's incredibly expensive. I was setting my iPhone to connect to my friends' wi-fi in their home, but had Data Roaming on for a few minutes. Lesson learned.

AT&T also has a plan called Global Messaging 50 that allows you to send up to 50 messages – text, instant, picture and video for $10.

Does anyone know if the Global Messaging works if data roaming is off? I was thinking of Toktumi, and global messaging. Thanks/

Yes, messaging works fine and this is how we primarily communicated.

Apparently the Sprint data plan was discontinued recently.. this is a real bummer. I'm not sure how much data a regular email push may be...

$24.99 gives you very little usage indeed. You'll be surprised how little, and how easy it is to go over the limit and pay an astronomical amount!
As for hotel computer usage, I was also aghast to find that those rates have gone up significantly in Europe as well. In Prague the charge at my hotel (Hilton Old Town) was almost $45 a day last December. I paid was was necessary as I was working at the same time I vacationed. But I had to be very conservative in my usage. |
You can use an italian Vodafone prepaid SIM-Card. They have an european rate (works only with the italian SIM card) that gives you 100 MB a day for 2 € in almost every european country: Austria,Belgium, France, Germany, England, Greece, Ireland, Malta, Holland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, Spain, Swiss , Hungary.
