Anyone tried "Untours"?
 

I have been considering doing an Untour with a company called Idyll. The trip includes airfare and two or four weeks in an apartment in a variety of locations. Has anyone tried this?

Is that "Untours" or Unitours? Never heard of Untours...

No, its Untours. They named it this because there really are no tours during your stay. You're pretty much on your own...

I have not tried them yet, but have defnitely considered doing so. Great feedback on the Frommers site. The literature is very appealing, and the prices are good.

My family went on a 2 week Untours to Switzerland last summer. I cannot rave enough about it! Everything was handled very efficiently, and we were given so much information it was unbelievable. After a short "orientation" lesson we were able to navigate all of the many transportation options and go wherever we wanted, whenever we wanted, including many places an ordinary tourist would never find. It was my idea of a perfect vacation. I'll be glad to give you any more information you need if you'll just send me an email.

Four friends and I took an "Untour" to Reuti, Switzerland, in June and it was one of the greatest travel experiences I've ever had! <BR>(That would include "out of the USA" once or twice a year since 1984 to Russia.) The people are great to deal with, they give you all you need, and you definitely feel that you are living in, not visiting, a country. My friends were all "newbies" to Europe, but they were very soon comfortable with finding their way around Switzerland. I plan to try other places with Untours, but I'm guessing that Switzerland is probably the easiest for novice travellers as everything is so impeccably organized. We spent about $2100 apiece for everything--airfare, food, transportation, and our "home" chalet. Unbeatable, for sure!!

My wife and her mother took an Untour to Lungern, Switzerland about 10 years ago--they both loved it. They appreciated having an Idyll person in the vicinity in case there were problems (which there weren't). They stayed on the bottom floor of a private home--meadows outside, with the cows showing up to graze around 9:30 in the morning, in a beautiful little town bordering a lake and surrounded on three sides by mountains with waterfalls, etc. My wife and her mother had absolutely no problems at all, enjoyed the accommodations (although the Swiss turn on the heat sparingly--but we knew that beforehand), and even got to try out their rudimentary German on the family children. <BR> <BR>My wife says she'd do an Untour again in a minute. Plus, she's originally from the Philadelphia area, so she felt as if she was helping support one of the local businesses. (I think Idyll's in Medea, PA--right?)

Have been on 2 Untours, once the Prague, Budapest, Vienna for 3 weeks and Swiss Ticono. Both were great, the Swiss one was last April great accomodations in Locarno, lots of help if you need it. Would recommend to all.
