anyone stayed in Jr. Suite at Rubens at the Palace in London?

Can someone describe the bedding situation for me I seem to be receiving differing reports. Also about the size of the room and anything else you would like to tell me! It is a mom and 2 daughters ages 12 and 10. Thank you!

Hi,

We just returned from London and Scotland. We stayed in a jr. suite at the Rubens for 2 nights. Nice size room with a king bed but not a "large" room. Small table and 2 chairs, desk with chair, amoire with tv. Large bathroom. I am not sure how you would fit 3 people in it, with a cot it would be very tight. We had enough room to open our suitcases on the floor and still have room to walk thru but I can't imagine putting another bed in there. I was just doing a quick check on Fodors and saw your post.

Hope this helps. All in all, Rubens is a very nice hotel. Good location. Good breakfasts. For the most quiet rooms, ask for the rooms facing the inner court area. Super quiet. No view but who cares. You are not in there very much. Have fun!

Contact the hotel directly and see if they have any slightly larger rooms. And don't about a "cot" -- in the UK a cot is a baby crib.

thank you for your reply. From what i read on the website there is supposed to be a pull out sofa i take it from your post this was not the case? Also i seem to sense some underlying feeling that you did not really enjoy the hotel - were you disappointed? thanks, Debbie

flycatcher06: Contact the hotel. It may very well be there are different sorts of rooms - some w/ sofa beds.

"i seem to sense some underlying feeling that you did not really enjoy the hotel - were you disappointed?" ??

I'm not gopack but "All in all, Rubens is a very nice hotel. Good location. Good breakfasts. " certainly doesn't sound to me like disappointment. Rubens at the Palace is a very nice hotel in a very good location. If you do a search for it on here you will find MANY posts about it - the vast majority very positive.

I personally have not stayed there (I mostly rent flats in London) but I have been inside it or walked past it MANY times. It is a wonderful place to stay.

should have said " . . . I have been inside, and have walked past it MANY times . . . ."

Debbie,

I was WRONG!! We did NOT stay in a jr. suite, we stayed in a superior king room. I am soooooo sorry I told you the wrong thing. I double checked it this morning. I apologize sincerely!! If the jr. suite is supposed to have a pullout couch, that is an entirely different style of room.

You must be a detective. You were able to detect my very slight disappointment in our stay there. Actually it is a very nice hotel, the rooms were very nice and clean and comfortable, etc. We stayed at the sister hotel last year, the Chesterfield Mayfair and we thought we would give Rubens a try this year. It is just so much larger and busier than the Chesterfield, so the service was not as personable or as helpful. the lobby is busy and the concierge desk is always busy. We also had a mixup on the tickets for the Hop On Hop Off buses which we purchased from the head concierge. So that affected us somewhat also.

I am sure you will find it a very nice hotel and again, it is only a 5 minute walk to the front of the Palace. and not far from the Parliament, etc. For my husband and me, we just prefer smaller quieter hotels.

Again, I am very sorry and embarrassed about my mistake.

Ginny

PS We stayed in a jr. suite last year and that is why I had it in my head that we stayed in one at the Rubens.

No problem - I have e-mailed the hotel and am awaiting a response! Thanks for all your help. Debbie
