Anyone stayed at "Sleeping Beauty's Castle" at Sababurg, Germany?s

I remember visiting this charming place in 1991. We are going to be that area again and am trying to get a reservation for one night. Any experiences would be appreciated.
Also, I vaguely remember going to the animal park, but it was closed that day. As well as I could understand from our German relative, there are oxen there that have been bred back from extinction. Is this correct? I tried researching "Sababurg" on the Internet but only received the website from the castle.

Yes, I was there this past March. I ate in the castle but did not stay there overnight. I think that you make sleeping reservations through the castle itself. There IS a "zoo" nearby, I believe, but it was closed when I was there (for the evening). Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

My husband took me there for our 1st anniversary (we lived in Germany at the time) The food at their restuarant was absolutely marvelous and the rooms were very nice. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful. We did a whole "fairy-tale" weekend.

Funny...at Usse, in France, they swear THAT is Sleeping Beauty's castle! Marketing is a beautiful thing!

Robin,
The area around Sababurg and Kassel is famous for the Brothers Grimm, who wrote their fairy tales from the local folklore. In German, "Dornroschenschloss", or Sleeping Beauty's Castle dates back to 1334. You can see it at www.wesercastles.com/sababurg
I'm sure it has been marketed and commercialized, but it is still a charming place, with great food, I hear.
I tried to make a reservation with Dornroschenschloss Sababurg, but didn't get the information emailed back in time, they said they were full. Then they charged me for not showing up. I NEVER HAD A CONFIRMATION. They charged 80% room rate for two nights to my credit card. They will not respond to my correspondence either and I've had to file with credit card company to have charge removed.
