Anyone stay at the Hilton London Metropole?
I originally had a reservation at the Hilton London Paddington. The opening has been delayed. THey want to move my reservation to the Hilton London Metropole, which is supposedly 5 minutes from Paddington station. Has anyone stayed at the Metropole? Are the rooms and bathrooms nice? I believe this hotel opened in 2000.

I also stayed at the Metropole while it was a Stakis hotel. The rooms were of decent size for London the breakfast really good and a nice indoor swimming pool and health club to prevent jet lag. I liked the area esp. Paddington/Bayswater-great fish and chips all over. Edgware Road has a large Arab population which was delightful because it underscored the multiethnicity of the "New Britain". There were also a couple of casinos close by for fun. Rent Croupier on VHS if interested in that scene. Notting Hill and Holland Park close by on tube too. Hope some of this helps. Enjoy your trip.

The Metropole on Edware Road is the largest hotel in London - of Las Vegas proportions in term of room numbers. It attracts both business and tourist travellers and always seems very buzzy.

I haven't stayed there - I work across the street - but it seems very modern, clean etc if a bit chain-like. It is right over the road from Edgware Road tube station, and is a 10 minute walk from Oxfors Street. However it IS in a rather unnattractive part of town. It is home to a large Lebanese population, as you will see from the women wandering around in Burkhas, and men sat in arab coffee shops smoking hubba bubbas. Don't be put off by the arab population, they are used to tourists and you won't get nay hassles for being american. More likely, they will make you very welcome. Try a lebanese meal while you're there. Otherwise, there's nothing you'd want to see around that are (the shops are all of the over the top gold beaded clothing and chandeliers type - catering for the arab locals.)

But it is convenient and I often see american tourists waiting at my bus stop (hate to conform to stereotype, but I spot them by the white sneakers).
