Anyone recommend an excellent Gregorian Mass in Rome?
 

We're going to Rome and will do the tour of St. Peters and the Vatican. However, we attended a Gregorian Mass at Notre Dame in Paris and the boychoir was to die for. Is there a similar service someplace in Rome? We've heard St. Peter's choir on tv and were not terribly impressed.

The monks at the Basilica of Santa Sabina on the Aventine used to chant Mass, and probably still do. It's a beautiful place to visit. Try looking into that. Also, you could try inquiring at the Santa Susanna website. That's the American church in Rome, and they might be able to direct you to the right place.

S Sabina (Dominicans) and S Anselmo (Benedictines) both on the Aventine hill have choir of monks singing Mass or Vespers nearly every day. Very monastic.

The Sistine Choir (boys and men) sing in St Peter's only when the Pope is there - not very often - and do hardly any chant. Sadly, I have heard no Italian choir involving children that is any better than the Sistine.
The vatican Cappella Giulia (women and men Sunday 10.30am Mass, men only 5pm Sun Vespers and occasional weekday Mass) sing a lot of chant, but you might not be impressed by them.
The "best" music in Rome is at S Maria Maggiore (adults) apparently lots of polyphony and chant.
