Anyone read Elizabeth Glazer's book?
 

"Eat, love, Pray"? I just loved that book!
Does anyone know of any other books LIKE that? Non fiction about going abroad and changing your life?

There are absolutely dozens of them. If you read some of the "book" threads you will find many references. Suggest you start with Driving over Lemons by Chris Stewart.

Is there anyt type of life change or any country you have a particular interest in?

I just find it interesting to read about people getting a "wake up" call and make a drastic change in their life. I am now of course more interested in Italy. That's why I was so fascinated with Glazer's book:-) If you know of any others, please tell me.

Yes I am being the literature police but the author of "Eat, Pray, Love" is Elizabeth GILBERT not Glazer.

Bel Canto. Isn't it by Ann Patchett? Thought that was a novel about an international gathering taken hostage in a South American embassy. Kind of a Lifetime move put to words.

Suzy Gershon's "C'est la Vie" is about her move to Paris after the death of her husband. "Educating Alice" is about the travels of Alice Steinbach after she won an award that gave her a year off her job in journalism to explore other options. She did a stint in the cooking school of the Ritz Hotel, Paris and learned to train sheep dogs in Scotland, among other delights.

I haven't heard of the book that you mentioned. Two of the best books I can think of about people who moved to Italy and as a result drastically changed their lives:

(But they are NOT cutesie books about people with lots of money and leisure time fixing up houses in pretty places, so if that's what you're looking for, these are not it.)

Underhill - I liked Alice Steinbach's book called No Reservations. It is about her traveling to London, Paris and Venice - maybe somewhere else. I think it might have been written before Educating Alice. I'll have to check that one out - thanks!

I also think Bel Canto took place in South America.

Sorry about Bel Canto...was just mentally running through a list of the books in this genre I've read, and the title "sounded right". My mistake.....

I'm working my way through "A Year in the Merde" by Stephen Clarke. A 27 yo Brit is transferred to Paris by a French company to start up a chain of tea rooms. It's rather juvenile but it has its moments.

Yes, Without Reservations was written before Educating Alice. I liked the former better. Another good choice is A Valley in Italy, can't remember the author but it should be in the travel writing section.

"A Year in the Merde" is entertaining, as is the follow-up "In the Merde for Love".

Slight correction: I just noticed that the title of one of the books I recommended above is On Persephone's Island (island, not isle).
