anyone know why i-escape site is down?

hope its not closed, love this site!

nukesafe May 15th, 2012 01:00 PM

Never heard of it, so don't care if it is up or down.

HG001London May 15th, 2012 01:11 PM

wow, i fail to understand why people have to be rude on here!

It is a popular travel website that shows unique one of places that i figured may well be used by many others on fordors

nukesafe May 15th, 2012 01:59 PM

Sorry if I sounded dismissive, but it sounded as if you were shilling a site; something that happens daily on Fodor's. If you let us know when it is put back up, and supply a link, I'd be glad to give it a glance.

HG001London May 15th, 2012 02:05 PM

Hi nuke, thats ok :-) thanks for the message

as much as i would love to have been the brains behind the website unfortunately someone else is lucky enough to have created it! :-(

but here it is anyway as it seems to be working and is pretty good for boutique place, but which genuinely has nothing to do with me, accept that i use it a lot

enjoy

p.s should probably have said i am relatively newish to fordors so pretty much take posts at face value, i didn't realise advertising stuff on here was a common thing or i would not have taken your comment so badly- i see where you were coming from now.

oh well i am learning!! :-)

nukesafe May 15th, 2012 02:13 PM

Well, HG, I found the site on my own. Does not do it for me.

It only lists "boutique" hotels, and very few of them. I cannot tell what the price symbols mean, but since they are in GBP I assume the site is based in the UK. I checked a couple of properties, and all were WAY above my price point.

In any case, there are not enough listings at present for me to bother with the thing. There are only 37 properties listed for the States, and 80 for France; and that includes Corsica.

Are you sure you don't work for them?

HG001London May 15th, 2012 02:25 PM

what??- no i do not work for them!! wow!- read through my posts if you like and you will see there is no evidence that i work for them! this is silly maybe you should not always think the worst of people.

If i worked for them why would i post that the site is down?- surely that might make people think its closed. I don't have anything to do with them!

For europe (where i holiday most as i live here) i find them useful as they take more pictures then i often can find on the websites and list the negatives of places.

I guess i also work for the 6 or so food blog websites i posted a few days ago?

HG001London May 15th, 2012 02:42 PM

Nuke, it is really frustrating that i feel i cant even discuss the site anymore in reply to your comments as if i say anything positive about it i expect i will further get accused of working for them.

As much as i understand people can be suspicious, sometimes you need to give people the benefit of the doubt when there is no actual evidence that what you suggest is true, else genuine fordor uses (like me!!!) will get driven away.

hetismij2 May 16th, 2012 12:15 AM

It is up and running again now. Maybe it was down for site maintenance or there was a glitch at their server.

ekscrunchy May 16th, 2012 03:06 AM

I'll vouch for HG001; I do not believe that she works for iEscape. In fact ", I'm meaning to take a look at that site because I believe I read here that booking with them often means getting a few extras thrown in...

I don't work for them, either!

daveesl May 16th, 2012 03:31 AM

Actually, HG is a marketing genius. He/She has spent the last 5 months of their lives discussing all kinds of things on Fodors. Then, when we are all hooked, the catch comes "...any know why site doesn't work?" Wow, entice people to go to a website that doesn't work!

What a brilliant and devious plan! :-)

I think I can say with strong certainty that HG isn't a shill for that company.

dave

HG001London May 16th, 2012 11:31 AM

thanks so much dave and eks, really nice to know some folk think i am genuine :-)

eks, i have never actually booked with them as i always book direct with places but yeah they seem to offer little treats and am sure they are fine to book with. I use the website more just to check out ideas for places and like i say read the negatives about places.

ekscrunchy May 16th, 2012 12:25 PM

I also look at them from time to time. I like the comments about the properties, and their other tips.

And recently there was someone here who mentioned that she had booked with them and received some benefits...maybe breakfast, or a spa treatment? If I see it again, I'll post here.

HG001London May 16th, 2012 12:54 PM

yeah i often notice "free bottle of bubbly etc etc , but like i say havn't booked through them myself. They also tend to re-visit places to check which i like too.

We stayed in one of their places they had for Bali but by the time we got home it was no longer on site, so maybe they no longer felt it was up to scratch anymore....(although to be fair we loved the place in bali so was a little confused why it went from the site)

Smeagol May 16th, 2012 01:08 PM

I too really like this site and have used it for reference/ booking for a few years. it shows some interesting/ individual properties. I also like some of their hints/ tips and destination guides.
HG I don't work for them either:)

HG001London May 16th, 2012 01:33 PM

Smeagol, yeah i think there all pretty unique, hehe -re working for them-

I didn't mean to get so frustrated with my previous responses, but i just couldn't stand being accused of working for them, when i was genuinely just trying to figure to check it had not shut down.

i have calmed down now :-) , and my real employer found it amusing that people thought i was an advertising plant for a travel company, seen as i go on about travel all the time at work!
