Anyone know these TV shows?

We watched two reality shows while in London but don't know the name of either one.

In one, there was a panel of I think 4 judges, and two regular people doing a kind of "cookoff". They make their own specialties. Each program, one of them is eliminated and one moves on. I guess later in the season there will be quarterfinals, semifinals, etc. In the one we watched, a vicar's wife made some miserable food that was roundly trashed by the judges (including some heart-shaped chocolate thing). Her opponent didn't fare much better, but moved on. Even the vicar's wife agreed that she didn't have a good day in the kitchen!

In the other, a family was given the chance to "test" moving to Australia. The family consisted of two teachers and two daughters, one of whom was not interested in the move at all. They were looking at three homes in the Brisbane area, and three teaching jobs for the wife. We had to leave for dinner before the episode was over, so we not only don't know the name of the show, we don't know whether they opted to move or stay!!

Thanks all.

The first one is called (I think) "Cooking for the Enemy". I saw one programme (the same one you describe, as it happens) and it is on my ever-lengthening list of television shows to avoid. Cookery-related programmes that help me to cook better are fine; cooking as bloodsport is a waste of time and an affront to human dignity.

The other one is already on my list. It might be "A Place in the Sun" or it might be one of too many programmes of that ilk.

cooking as bloodsport is a waste of time and an affront to human dignity.

It was pretty brutal!

The one about Australia is called Wanted Down Under and is a repeat but still good viewing. Joyce

The Australian one was "Wanted down under" as peviously said. The cooking program was probably "Britain's best dish".

Regards.

The cooking programme is Eating with the Enemy - the judges are 4 food critics.

Obviously caught your attention!!

Could some UK based viewer tell me which channels show these shows?

I'm not UK based but they are on BBC2. I get BBC via cable ;)

Eating with the Enemy:

Masterchef on BBC has rather adopted the "brutal" formula:

Wanted Down Under:

Padraig's memory of the title makes me wonder if the next "reality TV" show is going to be, smply, "Cooking The Enemy". Or maybe we should have a show on which Z-list sleb should be sent on a one-way ticket to Australia....
