Kybourbon, you are my personal hero for advising of the gethuman website.

I recently dashed off a letter to Wells Fargo, advising them that I went through TWELVE menus before I spoke to a live person. And that included an advertisement on my time! Let companies know that this is not good service.

It may save them money in the short run, but in the long run, let them know it is costing them customers. Id cancel my credit card if they were like Wells Fargo, my mortgage company.

I actually clipped the article out of the paper last week because it listed quite a few companies with directions (US airlines/cell phone/retail/gvt/etc.).
Here's a list of how long it took to reach a person at thr airlines using their directions.

America West - 2.5 minutes
AA - 2.75
Continental - 12
Delta - 4
Northwest - 2
Southwest .25
United - 16.5
US Air - .5

Actually, Christina, I did question him about that being an 800 number, but he insisted that was what he had. (I hope he knows more about the No Transaction Fee thing than he does about dialing 800 numbers from France!)

I sure wish I had known about the gethuman thing this morning, but all's well that ends well, I guess.

Christina: Apparently there is such a thing as an "international 800 number".

TravelGuard issues one with all their policies, though I've never had the occasion to try it out.

Just a quick update. I just called Capitol One again to let them know I might be using the card in Europe. I dialed 1-800-427-9428 and got through with only a minute or two on hold.

The woman I spoke to gave me yet another number to call from France in case of loss or theft of the card. It was 1-804-934-2001.

Hope this may be helpful to someone else.
