Anyone know how to paste the URL for a specific thread?

I know this has been done on the forum before, but can't figure out how to do it. I've searched & found several posts that have URLs like this one:

http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessages.jsp?fid=2&tid=34373836&numrespo nses=10&start=0

However, no matter which thread I click on, my address bar only reads:

http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessages.jsp?fid=2

Is it just my browser (IE 5.5), or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks - I was trying to post 2 recent threads for someone asking for books about London.

Andrea, there are two ways to do it (essentially both the same way).

1. Click with the right mouse button the message header in the left hand column. Choose "copy shortcut". This puts the URL in your clipboard, you can "paste it out" with Ctrl-V nor "Edit, paste".

or

2. Right click on the message header and choose "Open new window". This opens the message (thread) in a new window, and you will then see the URL at the top of your screen in the URL space of your browser. You can cut and paste from there like any other text.

The URL for THIS message is

http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessages.jsp?fid=2&tid=34385451

Note that I typically cite URLs by cutting this part off, as it is not needed:

&numresponses=0&start=0

Best wishes,

Rex
Thanks! Worked like a charm! Maybe next time I'll move to Advanced URL Posting and clip the numresponses bit!

You're very welcome.
Thanks, Rex! I was just trying to figure this out myself. I have enjoyed your contributions elsewhere also.

It remains a mystery why Fodors does not explain this in the FAQ. In fact, they would sharply reduce the dissatisfaction of many newbies if they simply set up this forum so that the URL of a new thread was automatically e-mailed to the person making the original posting.

This might even be a better solution to the ongoing debate over registration. Requiring that a valid e-mail address must be provided with every NEW post. Wouldn't have to be displayed. Just provided.
Yes, this is a handy thing to know and would be very helpful in guiding others to other threads that provide good information.
On the home page of this site (www.fodors.com) there is a link through which you can "Write Us" (fodor's editors) and provide feedback, comments, suggestions. I've just sent them the URL for this topic, with suggestion they include this in their "frequently asked questions".
You're very welcome, carol ("wellness") - - sorry for belated acknowledgement of your kind remarks.
If you use the netscape browser, just click on the message response part of the thread and go to file send, email and the entire text will be sent as seen on the screen.
