How do you cancel a confirmed booking without losing the refund? Hotels does it no problems, what about flights??
Booked my flight 2 weeks ago and just found out that easyjet offers a much better deal, closer to the city.
Does anyone know?
I've got a booking from Stockholm Skavsta to Milan Bergamo with Ryanair, Skavsta is 50miles from the central and easyjet offers the same flight but from Arlanda which is 15miles from Central...arghhhh!!! Travelling with a baby, wants to make the trip as smooth as possible. Obviously would like a bit of refund, have booked for 6 pax.

You can only get a refund on a flight if they cancel it and alternatives offered are no use to you.

Ryanair are the biggest bunch of a$$holes. They've literally built a corporate culture based on wringing every penny out of customers, usually at the expense of your comfort, safety, and convenience.

Unfortunately you get what you pay for with Ryanair.

You do get what you pay for, but sometimes you can pay very little. I have got flights from UK to Sicily return for less than £20, and from Pisa to London for less than €5 - both times including tax.

I wouldn't use them for something critical like a business meeting, but then I don't expect flag carrier service at budget prices.

try a search of 'ihateryanair' as there is a site that gives advice on refunds & cancellations. They are being prosecuted all the time by ryan air but they have phone numbers & fax numbers that are useful for contacting direct.

Ryanair is the world`s largest international airline. In the past year it carried 67 million passengers. I do not like them much but I use them a lot. You have to know how to work the system to get the best value from them and you can get very good value indeed. Try to book a few months ahead. Avoid weekends. Only carry the bare minimum in a small case so that you will pay nothing for the case. They really get you if you have a lot of luggage. Do not forget to print your boarding card before you go to ther airport. Do not go for extras as a rule. Eat at the airport or before you go to the airport.You should not use them if you want to connect to another flight-they are a point to point airline. On the positive side they use modern Boeings and they have had no serious accident so far.They have a very high on-time rating.Their website www.ryanair.com is one of the busiest in Europe and obviously at the end of the day they provide a service that people choose over other airlines.

'ryanaircampaign.org' is the independent site that has the useful phone numbers plus advice for ryan air users & complaints. I found it whilst looking up i hate ryan air but I see that it is now hard to find when doing the search now.

I have nothing against ryanair as I am flying to Italy with them this year. The cost of our return tickets with ryan air have risen £600 (for 4 of us) since I booked but a return ticket now equals the cost of a one way ticket I was quoted 3 months ago by another airline.

As has been said before Ryanair dont do refunds but they are legally obliged to refund the Tax element of the fare. That can often be more than the fare you paid. As you booked for 6 i would say its well worth claiming. Just do the sums and see if it is worthwhile. If you wish to claim back the tax, dont do anything until after the flight has gone. Then claim back the tax by letter to their head office in dublin. This has worked for me in the past although be prepared to wait a couple of months.

Ryanair covers its backs by charging a handling fee (per person), which normally equals to the tax and charges element of their fare.

Thats true he's a past master at all this, but a quick phone call to the customer service and they will tell you what that charge will be. Then the maths can be done. Another point to consider is the travel time rather than the distance. Most of the airports that Ryanair fly into are way out of the city. The OP mentions 50 miles. There will be a shuttle bus provied and i think it takes one hour. its one bus ride so at least no dragging the baby around. I am not sure how long it takes to get to the other airport but if it is in the city centre or close it might take as long due to traffic.
These are just things for the OP to consider before a choice is made. I suppose at the end of the day it depends on how much was paid for the tickets and how much can be got back

If you call cheap £ 189 for a flight from Turin to Glasgow I do not know what a cheap flight is. I apologise to the Irish people, the comments were referred to one Irish person, which remain what I called him, in seeing red after they muved the repaymant from 15 to almost 50 days. What you will call someone like that ????

It's pretty annoying with web check-in charge...no choice and I hear they also charge for the use of the bathroom on the airplane these days. Easy jet is $450 Euros , so it's matter of 100 Euros and probably 2hrs travel time saved.
I'm not arriving until 20.30 in Italy so I've booked a taxi service to the hotel instead of dragging the baby girl in and out of train right on her bedtime hours. Easy jet arrives at 18.30 which is a much more pleasant time....I'm a bit torn but will have a look at the recommended websites.

You could maybe offer the Ryanair flight to someone else (?) and change the name. Sometimes works out more expensive to change the name but worth a try and may be the only way of salvaging any money on the Ryanair flight if you do decide to book Easyjet instead.

I have to date had 2 flights cancelled due to the volcanic ash. Both flying with ryanair. The flights were 2 weeks apart and i got my refund for the first flight last week and the second one i expect this week.
