Anyone know a driver we could hire in Burgundy?
 

We would like to do tastings but don't really want the bus tour thing. The private tours are silly expensive and we are working on getting our own tastings set up with some vineyards. Does anyone know of a driver we can hire to take us around for the day?

You can ask any taxi operator. You can easily research taxi drivers based upon your destination city.

However unless you are connected in some way to the wine distribution business giving you access to the various well-known producers, I think your time will be better spent contacting a professional guide:

No, not at all like Napa. Smaller, and some large, properties often prefer advance reservations, especially at busy times of the year. There are a number of chateaux that have tasting rooms, however. We especially like Savigny-lès-Beaune and Meurseult; the latter offers a self-guided tour through the vast wine cellars, complete with bottles of assorted vintages for sampling.

Some of the small wine villages, such as Gevrey-Chambertin, have little tasting rooms where you can sample the local wines for a fee.

We used to live near Napa so when we went to Burgundy, we thought it would be easy to drive around to wineries for tastings. Not so much. It can definitely be done but is not as straightforward as wine tasting in the US so you'll need to either 1) do a lot more homework on where to do 2) be willing to wing it and see what you find or 3) sample wines in the shops as many shops do wine tastings. We actually ended up doing a private tour with Burgundy discovery (I see it listed above) and it was really fun as we went to a sampling of mid sized to tiny producers (one a woman who poured us wine in her kitchen).

If you just want a driver, most of the major car-rental agencies can arrange one for you.

Does anyone know how much it would cost per hour to hire a taxi driver for a day or half day?
