Anyone have experience leasing (not renting) a car from Renault or Pugeot?

We've heard that if you plan to be in Europe for more than 17 days and want to arrange for a car, that the vacation lease programs from Renault and Pugeot are a great deal. You get a brand new car, all of the insurance (complete coverage, no deductables)and taxes in the price. Your also get 24/7 road service. Can pick up anywhere and return anywhere. We're willing to pay the surcharge for a guaranteed automatic car large enough to hold four adults and luggage.
Anyone done the lease (not rental) route before? Any suggestions.
Thanks, FL Judi

We've done it twice. Your description is accurate. You also get zero deductible insurance. You can pick it up and leave it off in various cities. There is a charge outside of France. The last time we did it, we rented an E Space van which is about the size of a Chrysler mini van.

It's a great deal. The daily rate gets lower as you keep the car longer. It's brand new, but you can't specify options. It comes equiped like most rental cars.

Just posted a rather lengthy post about this a couple of days ago, too bad the recent search function won't work for us here.
We do the leases through AutoFrance, the Peugeot plan and they are great. In addition to the above comments, even drop off charges can be pretty minimal. Pick up nearly anywhere in France and at a number of airports in other countries, and drop off fees as low as $40 in Amsterdam or Milan, for example. Look at www.autofrance.net, which even will picture the various models with lots of information and give you actual prices for the times. We have opted for a 307 turbo-diesal for two months this summer at a total rate of about $28 a day -- with 0 deductible insurance and all the other extras --including no vat or other tax, it is a great deal and we know we will have a brand new car, plus get about 52 miles to the gallon of diesel fuel! The cars are very heavily equipped, power windows, doorlocks, air conditioning, etc. If you're renting over 17 days, you can't beat it.

Just to flesh out our experience a bit. As I said we rented an E Space last time. We were a group of 5. Four adults and a teen.

The E Space is something to think about. It has seating for 7, but the third seat is over the rear axle and really is not suitable for long distance use. There is surprisingly little space for luggage behind the third seat so it tended to spill into the third seat area. Your luggage will be in plain view.

It is a large van so it's ackward compared to a sedan.

If you're thinking of a van with four people a large sedan may be more appropriate. It certainly would be quieter and more comfortable.

Obviously, this is just commentary on the vehicle. We couldn't have been happier with the "lease". As Patrick says, the French lawyers have somehow gotten around the VAT. That saves something like 17% over a rental.

Judi, We did it for 8 weeks in 1999 and saved a bundle--great deal, even with pick up in Madrid and drop in Munich. Go for it !

Judi,
We opted for the 307 gas engine from Kemwel. Considered the diesel, but figured I would have to drive around 6000 miles to offset the extra rental fee for the diesel. Diesel fuel is about $.90/gal cheaper then gas in Europe.
Must agree with Vic. We had an E Space on our last trip and would never do it again. The luggage space with all the seats in, is less than the average rental car and they will not remove the last seat row even thou it takes about 20 seconds to do so. And as Vic says, the luggage is visible for all to see.
