Anyone found a shopping guide that has helped them in Paris?

I know the "shop till you drop" series but I have read poor reviews so I am considering an alternative. What have you found helpful?

I'm not a dedicated shopper, but I've always read good things about "Born to Shop".

I used it Born to Shop in Milan and liked it Elaine but if you go on Amazon.com you see bad reviews by readers. You never know though if the site is not monitored correctly, how accurate that is.

A great resource is the shoppers who frequent this board. Tell them what you are interested in finding and see what marvelous suggestions roll in.

For clothes, *nothing* I've ever seen has beaten the Where to Wear series
www.wheretowear.com
I believe it's the most current and comprehensive shopping guide for clothes in London, Paris, Italy and several U.S. cities.

My recent shopping guide was fodors own Kir Royale, who took me shoe shopping on the Rue de Rennes. Start at St Germain and walk south -- dozens of shoe stores, from low to high end. More on the parallel Rue du Dragon.

I've looked at StyleCity.

Also this one:

http://www.eparis.dk.com/

Both are quite good. If I recall StyleCity has a second edition out (?).

The binding is atrocious. I think that the binding for my London StyleCity fell apart too (forget what happened to the Amsterdam one).

Oh, and the most obvious one -- TimeOut Paris.

You can get the shop listings online if you don't want to buy the book.

(Or you used to -- haven't checked lately.)

I swear by the Louis Vuitton guides to the cities of Europe. Outstanding restaurant recs as well (it includes the high and the low).

I have read several books regarding shopping in Paris. I found all to be fun to read and got some good information out of all of them. I spend an inordinate amount of time at Border's and Barnes & Noble taking notes!

They are:

Paris Shopping Companion (Winkler)\

Best Buys & Bargains of Paris (Jeanne Feldman - she also has an online shopping guide for approx. $15 to $20). You could "Google" her.

Riches of Paris (Clemente)

Food Lovers Guide to Paris by Patricia Wells also has quite a bit of shopping information along with restaurant, etc., info.

My favorite is still "Born To Shop", by Suzy Gershman. She breaks the list down by categories, and has a great index. She lists the address as well as the nearest metro stop. It was from her book that I learned about Dehillerin, a great store for cooking utensils, and about the fabric stores near Montmartre.

Another good book is "The Riches of Paris--A Shopping and Touring Guide" by Maribeth Clemente. Her book is organized by arrondissement, and also has a good index. Happy shopping!

Dave in Paris, one of our posters, recently recommended "Paris Par Cher", available in Paris.

Had a blast shopping with Marilyn! Also recommend the Rue St. Placide for wonderful eclectic clothing stores. We were so exhausted we had to stop for a glass of wine. Bien sur!

I have to say some of my best shopping guides have been tips I downloaded from threads here on Fodors.

yeah I just never look through these threads if I take them, printed out with me on a trip Kir Royale. I much preferred a publication that I can index while I am on the go.
