Anyone fly Ryanair?
 

We booked a flight to Frankfurt although we eventually will end up in Italy. I went to Ryanair's web site and they have a fare from Frankfurt (Hahn) to Rome for 29 euro.

Anyone have experience flying Ryanair? Where is Frankfurt Hahn airport relative to the main airport?

My family flew RyanAir last summer from Paris (Beauvais) to Milan (Bergamo) and it was fine. Their airports are almost always really inconveniently located but the price is right. Beware though, they have very strict weight limits on luggage!

"Regular buses also run to Frankfurt, a one-way trip costs €11.00, children up to 7 years are €5.50 and a return-trip is €16.00. Returns can only purchased if returning within 24 hours. Journey time takes approximately 1hr 45 mins. Please refer to the timetable for exact times of the buses. The bus stop is situated on the south side of the train station on the corner of Mannheimer and Stuttgarter streets. A regional scheduled bus link is also available to/from the airport terminal to Bingen.

And yes, I have flown ryanair, many times, as have hundreds of people here, perfectly fine, low-cost no-frills airline, but I cannot comment on Hahn.

My wife and I have flown the Frankfurt-Hahn to Rome-Ciampino route on Ryanair. The flight was fine and on-time. Regarding Hahn, as mentioned above, it's roughly 90 minutes from the city of Frankfurt. (In fact, it's so far that Lufthansa sued to force them to stop calling it Frankfurt, but they lost.) The bus runs from the main train station, but also stops at the airport. The fare was actually EUR 12/person last August. Ryanair also runs a bus from Ciampino in Rome to Termini. (IIRC, the fare was EUR 8/person in Feb 2003. Ciampino is not the main Rome airport, but is relatively close -- only ~30 minutes by bus to Termini.) Keep in mind that Ryanair has quite stringent baggage requirements (1 piece checked under 15 kg, 1 piece cabin under 7 kg) and check-in requirements (less than 30 or 40 minutes and you will not get on the plane, no arrangements will be made to assist you, and no refund/credit will be given.) All said, I've flown Ryanair on 3 trips (to/from Italy and tice to/from Sweden) and a colleague flies "Frankfurt"-Pisa regularly.

For some other ideas, you might also check at Volareweb (http://www.volareweb.com) as they fly Hahn-Venice. Hapag-Lloyd Express (www.hlx.de) flies from Cologne-Bonn, Stuttgart, and Hannover to Rome, Pisa, and Venice. Airberlin (www.ariberlin.com) flies Frankfurt-Main (i.e., the "real" Frankfurt) to Rome and Germanwings (www.germanwings.com) fly Cologne and Stuttgart to Rome.

My husband and I have used RyanAir in the past and wouldn't hesitate to use them again--had read horror stories on another message board forum and feared the worst but alas those fears were put to rest with our first flight. If you are familiar with Southwest Airlines, it was used as a model for RyanAir so basicaly they're run the same way. You can find incredible fares but don't hesitate in purchasing when you do. No experience with Hahn. Enjoy!
