Anyone familiar with the drive from Orvieto to Assisi and Montepulciano?

Just looking for info on what type of roads you're on...two-lane country, etc. How difficult finding?

Hi trav,

Plot your course at www.viamichelin.com and www.mappy.com selecting the no toll options.

Michelin marks the scenic routes in green.

Ira - had looked at Michelin and just went on their site again. Put in no tolls and it still came up a toll road...surely you don't have to take the autostrada?

Nevermind - got it to work this time. Are these drives easy to make? We'll be there in February so renting a car isn't definite yet as it will depend on the weather.

For Orvieto-Assisi, there are no toll roads involved (the E45 is a free high-speed divided highway).

For Orvieto-Montepulciano, you'd be on the A1 Autostrada.

These drives are indeed easy to make.

Assisi to Orvieto will take about 1 1/2 hours without stops (unless there's construction). It's not all that scenic a drive though.
The temptation to hit Todi,Spoleto and even Deruta is great, but I'd save them for another day.
