Anyone familiar with renting cars at Munich's Hauptbahnhof, come in!

DH and I want to rent a car upon leaving Munich, preferably at the train station, as we are staying at the Le Meridien which is right across the street so it would be an easy walk over to get the car.

We've found the best rates by going through Avis.com. I checked Google Maps and it shows that there is an Avis location at the train station, however when the Munich locations come up on Avis.com, I can't figure out which one of these would be at the Hauptbahnhof? Would anyone know which one of the following locations might be at the train station? Thanks.

This one:
Vermietzentrum - MK8

Avis counter (Vermietzentrum) is in the train station itself, car return (Rückgabe) in the Bavaria Parkhaus next to the train station.

Hello jenblase

Of the addresses you gave, I would say the one on Nymphenburgerstrasse would be closest. (A couple blocks on the other side of the station from your hotel.)

Did you know there is a Europcar location INSIDE the station? Also, Alamo is serviced thru Europcar, so perhaps they'd have a good rate for you there.

We also stayed 5 nights at the Le Meridien this summer. Wonderful hotel!

Happy travels!

Thanks for the quick info. The only problem is, I would have to pay for the add'l taxes if I rented at the train station, correct? So maybe I should rent at the Nymphenburger Strasse location and save a few bucks.

We picked-up our car at a non-train station location and did indeed save the money. It was a slight pain having to cross town to get to the pick-up spot but it was also uncrowded, easier to get to the actual car (Avis' Hauptbahnhof garage used to be across the street in among the porno palaces) and since it was outside the busiest part of the city center, easier to get out of town.

Being across the street from the station it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to wheel your bags down to the subway and then get to the Avis office. But then again if you aren't as cheap as I am you could also take a taxi!

I would save the hassle and rent the car at the hauptbanhof.
I don't like driving in Munich, but I found having a GPS was wonderful (after I found out how to program it in English that is)

If you can afford it, rent a big BMW or Mercedes. Great for the Autobahn.

Have a great time in Munich.

Thanks for the apology, Bird. Yeah, that game really sucked. We were at a bar watching it and DH jumped up and knocked his barstool over when Folk hit the 57 yarder to tie it up. Too bad it was all over a few minutes later.
