Anyone ever been to Orgon in Provence?

We rented a gite in Orgon for the end of next month. The owner said it is only 10 minutes from St Remy, so I am not too concerned about how small Orgon is. He told us there are a few restaurants and shops in Orgon, but Eygalieres is only 4KM from the gite and much better choices there. He also said Eygalieres is one of the prettiest towns in the region. Anyone have any feedback or suggestions for these two small towns? Thanks.

yes, I've been to Organ to a local restaurant there with my Provencal friends who live in Molleges. Eygalieres is one of my favorites, have stayed there many times ; the old town is quaint and there are several excellant restaurants there.

Ditto for Eygalieres - really beautiful place. As for Orgon, you'll see it's nothing special - really more of a crossroads, but at least you are well located for driving to various places in the region -

If you are into antiques, check out Le Monde de Gonor - which is in Plan d'Orgon (as opposed to Orgon proper) but near enough anyway. It's on the road which runs between Cavaillon and St. Remy - a neat shop to check out, with prices infinately more interesting than Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.

I love antiques, thanks for the tip. We will definitely stop. I was so disappointed when our schedule put us to arrive in Provence on Sunday afternoon, therefore missing the Isle sur la Sorge market. I did feel a little better when I read that the prices at the market were notably higher than local shops. Gotta love a bargain with the exchange rates.

Don't worry, you'll find cheaper prices in the villages'flea markets.

If you're only 4 kms from Eygaliere, you won't be "in" Orgon (thankfully).
Orgon is right along the highway and backed by the railroad tracks - not a garden spot at all. You'll be a bit farther than ten minutes from St. Remy, but it's not a difficult drive there.

There are a couple of excellent restaurants in Eygaliere...
* Bistrot d'Eygalières "Chez Bru"
Michelin one star. Charming restaurant in the center of this tiny village. Owners/chef are Belgian, trained at the Baumanière in the 'good old days'. Inventive cuisine, fairly good wine list. In the summer, tables are set outside on the sidewalk for outdoor dining. They also have four rooms.... 130 to 160 euro per night
Reservations recommended in season and on weekends.
rue Republique Tel: 04 90 90 60 34
Lunch menu 45 euro Dinner menus 64/74 euro

Le Petit Bru
The baby bistro to the Bistrot d'Eygalieres. More casual - good food.
Prix fixe menu around 26 euro which offers a choice of entrée and main course, cheese and dessert.
House wine only.
Tel: 04 90 95 98 89

Sous les Micocouliers
Situated off the main road, this restaurant always has an interesting daily menu.
Lovely large terrace under the trees, it's great in the summer months.
Closed Tuesday all day and Wednesday at lunchtime.
Tel: 04 90 95 94 53

If I can offer any other suggestions, just let me know - I live just over the ALpilles from St Remy

How odd.... the 's' and the accent disappeared from Eygalières in the beginning of my post....

Usually the gites are on the outskirts of the village so mda may not see Orgon.
I once stayed, long ago at a Bastide in Uzës but it was not in the town, so that year I did not appreciate where I was because it was an overnight spot.

Patricia, thanks for all of the restaurant reco's. You concerned me when you said thankfully I won't be in Orgon itself. I checked and he says it is 1 KM outside of Orgon and it is 4 KM from Eygalieres. Hopefully it will be in a nicer spot than off of a highway and next to the railroad tracks. It is surrounded by 25 acres so if it is in a bad spot, maybe I won't be so aware of it. The location seems to be a central location for touring. I'll give you all feedback on the place when I return.

We have eaten at all three of PB's suggestions, but Sous les M. was not as good as the Petite Bru or the bistro de Eygalieres, tho I like the setting.
