Matatie;

Good to hear about other solo travelers! I will be in Nice Oct 8-12, and Paris Oct 12-21. If you are in Paris during this time a GTG would be great!

I lived in France for a while and would highly recommend visiting the south of France, especially Toulouse. It's a gorgeous city with cobblestone streets, about 2 hours east of Bordeaux. It's a metropolitan city with lots of charm where you would really experience France. I recommend it to all my friends. I loved living there for a year.

robjame Aug 15th, 2007 05:12 AM

Anyone else getting excited?

tropicalkerry Aug 15th, 2007 05:26 AM

EXCITED++++++++++++++++++++++++!!!!!!!!
Paris is our final stop(Oct20-23), after arriving in Venice Sept 29 for 4 nights, 2 week Venice-Barcelona cruise, then flying to London for 3 nights before Paris.
After 15 months of planning, I can't believe it's in 6 weeks!!!

Celiaanne Aug 15th, 2007 06:14 AM

Yes, robjame, I am!! I was just thinking it might be time to do a priceline for our hotel in PHL. We are staying there the night before our flight to CDG.

We have had so many delays from PIT lately that we don't want to take a chance, so we are giving ourselves 24 hours to get to PHL! :)

kansas59 Aug 15th, 2007 08:54 AM

Just found out that I will be going to Paris (arriving Sept 26 - departing Sept 30) to help plan a friends b'day party. Very excited because the last time I was in Paris (and my first time) was in 1989 - yeehaw! Will be staying at the Home Latin Hotel (Latin Quarter) since practically everything else was booked due to the Rugby mania. Would look forward to meeting up with anyone should the timing work out!

marisylvia Aug 15th, 2007 08:57 PM

We arrive in Paris on September 12 and are staying in the Truffaut apartment in Batignolles for a week, then spending a week with friends for the Merce festival in Barcelona.
We return to Paris on 9/25 to stay at another apartment, this one a splurge as it is on Ile St. Louis. How lucky we are!
We return to the SF Bay Area on 10/10.

jetsetterwannabe Aug 15th, 2007 10:45 PM

Will be in Paris from Nov. 5-11. While I have been there twice before, this will be my first time going it solo. I can't wait. Just the thought of not having to run plans by someone else is so liberating. What's kind of funny is that my biggest fear is getting from CDG to the apartment I rented. How crazy is that!!!!

If any of you are in Paris the same time, care to run into each other?

TRSW Aug 15th, 2007 10:54 PM

jetsetterwannabe,

I will be making my second trip to Paris Nov 1st-8th. The apartment I have rented is in the 2nd, and I am up for GTG. Whether it is for lunch, a drink, or sightseeing count me in.

Feel free to email me at tomsneed6025 at yahoo dot com. I have done GTGs in both Rome and Florence and had a great time meeting fellow Fodorites.

Tom

Celiaanne Aug 16th, 2007 02:55 PM

marisylvia, I'll be in the Truffaut apartment too -- from October 3 - 17. I a little concerned about the distance to the metro, but I am sure it will work out.

Have fun!

fbc34 Aug 16th, 2007 03:30 PM

Provence mid-October. . .a trip for my sister whose baby is off to college this fall!

annieblack Aug 16th, 2007 03:55 PM

We will arrive at CDG on the 22nd, VERY early. A few days in Paris, then renting a car and making our way to St. Remy. Have a reservation for one night in Lyon, leaving me two (as yet) unaccounted for nights. THinking of staying in Lyon for more nights, but wanted to stop between Lyon & Paris to see what's in the middle. A week at a gite in St. Remy, with day trips to the surrounding areas. Want to see Marseilles, Avignon, perhaps Cannes, etc.

My husband's first trip ever out of the US, my second (I was in Israel last spring). I am brushing up on my French vocab and trying to remember all the French infinitives I learned to conjugate too many years ago.

We are thrilled about this 2-week vacation!

annieblack Aug 16th, 2007 03:59 PM

Me again. Anyone stayed in either Beaune or Dijon? If so, which did you prefer? Can you recommend an inn or other place to stay? Thanks!

Kambo Aug 18th, 2007 02:27 AM

I was in Disleyland in November 2003 and I bought a 1 day/2 parcs ticket for 45 euros. Now, I have visited www.disneylandparis.com and there is no such offer-there is onlu 1 day/1 parc ticket, or 2 days/2 parc hopper ticket, quite expencive (103 euros)! Can anyone tell me-is there any offer to go both in Disney Parc and in Disney Studios in one day with single ticket, and if there is such possibility, what is the price of that ticket. Thanks a lot! :-)

robjame Aug 18th, 2007 03:56 AM

annie - wehave only been to Beaune but here is some info on that:
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34779182
We are stopping in the Chablis area this year and Dijon is on our list for next. Foe info on Dijon enter
coco
in the search box. She has an apartment for rent that gets rave reviews and you might want to consider that.
kambo - you will have better luck if you start a new thread and post your question with a suitable title

robjame Aug 23rd, 2007 07:08 AM

In case you missed them, there are a couple of threads regarding GTG's (get togethers) in France this fall.

One is planned for Paris:

And one is for Dordogne:

Arrive in Paris on 10/15 and depart on 10/25. Staying in the Paris Perfect "Grenache". A friend joining me for her first trip to Paris. She is very excited. I have many things planned for her.

Carlux Aug 25th, 2007 01:29 AM

Good to see that you have managed to get back to France gracejoan. Hope to see you again some day.

ggnga Aug 25th, 2007 02:37 AM

Hello all, especially first time solo travelers to Paris. I have done it many times. You can do it, yes you can! as Bob the Builder says. LOL I am a grandmother.
Had much fun at GTG in Paris X2. Such nice and interesting Fodorites. Also have done driving trips in Provence and Dordogne solo.
I will be in Paris Oct. 15 to 19 then Morocco on tour for 9 days, then back to Paris Oct. 28, leaving on the 31st.
I will be solo probably. A friend may meet me for a few days. I would love another GTG.
I am now at the stage of travel that I wander, soak it up. No to do lists or schedules. Go with the flow.
I was revisitng my France photos the other day and it gives me such joy to remember. Thanks St. Cirq for igniting my interest in the Dordogne. Such beauty.
Counting down the days. This will be my only trip to France for 2007 so it will be extra special.
See you there I hope.

gg

gracejoan3 Aug 25th, 2007 03:15 AM

Carlux,

Yes, things have straightened out somewhat, and I can now travel again!!

Looking forward to Paris in October..a well needed trip!

grandmere Aug 25th, 2007 06:07 AM

Gracejoan, I will be in Paris in Oct., too, with two friends who have never been before; you mention that you have lots of things planned for your first-time friend. Would you mind sharing a few ideas? We will, of course, hit the high spots but thought maybe you have some off-the-beaten track ideas.
I'd love to go to ballet at Garnier but nothing going on then; I must be destined not to see a performance there. I have had to lose tickets twice b/c of cancelled trips!

Celianne, I am leaving from PIT thru PHL, too, and have not taken the timing precautions you have to make sure I get on that plane. I may have goofed up on this one; wish me luck for leaving on time from PIT!

gracejoan3 Aug 25th, 2007 06:29 AM

Grandmere,
Where are you staying in Oct. with your friends? Our ParisPerfect apt. is on rue Jean Nicot, in the 7th, of course.

For my first timer friend: She wanted to see some of the Champagne country, so have her booked for a 1/2 day minivan tour to Epernay for that. I always think they enjoy an Illuminations tour..it is pretty and gives them a feel for Paris. That will also be a minivan tour. I have reservations for fashion show at Galeries Lafayette, to see the skinny girls..that will be after having lunch at Taillevent! I will join her on a minivan tour of Fontainebleu, Barbizon and Vaux le Vicomte. I like that combination. We have two day museum passes..can't fit in more..she will be seeing some not on the pass. She will want Louvre, d/Orsay, l'Orangerie, Rodin, Andre Jacquemart, Marmottan, Invalides, Eiffel etc.

We have arranged for dining reservations along with those made directly with Taillevent and Catherine Constant. We need our days, so we have a great boulangerie across the street from our apt. for breakfast..will probably do light lunches(other than Taillevent) and plan on lengthy dinners. Our reservations: Le Petit Troquet, La Cerisaie, Au Petit Tonneau, Au Gourmand, Le Florimond, Les Fables de la Fontaine, Les Papilles, Carte Blanche and Le Clos Gourmets...probably will also add on more Constant stops after talking with Catherine, and some others.

If you would care to join us, or stop by our apt., please let me know. My e-mail address is: [email protected]
Joan

Hope the weather changes for a better fall than the summer has been!

Texasgal2 Sep 6th, 2007 06:53 PM

We have a trip booked Oct 19-30. We'll arrive in Paris, then fly on to Krakow. We'll return to Paris and take the TGV to Dijon for a few days in the countryside. Then back to Paris for 4 nights.

I still need the hotel in Beaune and the TGV reservations!

Bonjour - I'm new to this site and forum communicating. I hope this posting is added to the responses for robjame's who's in France in Fall 2007 question - count me there: Paris 10/30-11/11, then Bergerac, then Arles. Dear StCirq, how do we respond when apartment hunting even on the phone with a vrbo owner who insists they never do contracts, they get so much business and happy customers that it wouldn't be worth it? Guess I'll have to cross mes doigts and see when I get les clefs. Can anyone comment on whether the 3-day France Railpass is the right way to go for someone who wants to see the countryside a little more? My travel needs are Paris-Bergerac, Bergerac-Arles, Arles-Paris. Also, who's been to Lascaux II?

gruezi Sep 7th, 2007 02:44 PM

robjame, thanks for this thread

Enjoyed reading everyone's plans although jealous of those going for weeks....

My daughter and I will visit Nov 16-19th, don't yet know where we'll stay.

It's a surprise for her 17th birthday. She is an art and history buff so we'll see a lot of museums. Also, we love chocolate and french pastries...she is a shopper!!

I haven't been to paris in 23 years - last time I traveled alone... cannot wait to share this with my daughter...having such fun making plans and reading posts on Fodors!

frestonia Sep 7th, 2007 03:08 PM

Be arriving Paris on Nov. 3rd and will be there til Nov. 7th. Be staying at Hotel Louvre Marsolliere. Hope it won't be as chilly as the first time I was there back in December 2005 (with DH). My sis will be accompanying me this time. It'll be her first trip to Paris.

robjame Sep 10th, 2007 03:01 PM

Well we leave Saturday September 15th for a week in Paris and then 4 weeks in the Dordogne.
We packed today so I am all set... the bags even came in under weight!
Wednesday is a Toronto Fodors GTG which will set up the trip perfectly.
What about you?

TRSW Sep 10th, 2007 03:12 PM

robjame - Have a great trip. Looking forward to your trip report, and photos of the great food you will be enjoying.

Tom

Have a great time robjame! We leave this Thursday but have a much shorter trip than you do. Flying into BCN and driving immediately to So. France. After one night at a B&B close to Homps, we'll be traveling to Belcastel, one of the most beautiful villages in France for a weeks rental in a stone house gite. We'll be traveling daily in a different direction exploring the Aveyron region and the Tarn Gorge.

It was pretty funny reading about the English travelers who mistakenly flew to Rodez, instead of Rhodes, Greece. They sure don't compare, but we're actually staying very close to Rodez on purpose!

The end of the trip we'll be in Barcelona a few nights experiencing the Le Merce festival!

Hope everyone has wonderful trips this fall to France!

Brazilnut Sep 10th, 2007 05:42 PM

Yes, I will be in Paris from Sept 30 through Oct 3, on my way to Bangalore (and then New Delhi) in India. I will stay in Paris for one night on the way back. In both occasions I will stay in Montparnasse, close to the Air France bus drop off.

mycatmiko Sep 11th, 2007 09:40 AM

I will be in Paris Nov 12-21 with my boyfriend. It will be the first time for both of us! We are staying in www.vrbo.com/139753. I am so unbelievably excited!

violet_9 Sep 12th, 2007 02:20 AM

YES! I'll be in Paris on Friday 28th Sept & leaving on Tuesday 2nd October for London.
The World Cup has made a huge difference to prices of hostels/hotels so I booked online with the help of my wonderful travel agent and am hoping for the best! Happy travels all!
