Anyone else do "Happy Hour" here?

Some days, when it comes 5 o'cloak, and I've had a full day and feel entitled to a drink (or two), I come here to "chat" so that I don't have to drink alone. Anyone else out there with me?

francophile03 Nov 23rd, 2005 03:28 PM

Hi, are you sure you haven't imbibed something? "5 o'cloak"? :)
I'm with you.

maitaitom Nov 23rd, 2005 03:32 PM

Sure, but why wait until five?
((H))

lawchick Nov 23rd, 2005 03:33 PM

What's your poison ce soir?

kswl Nov 23rd, 2005 03:49 PM

Not any more.

suze Nov 23rd, 2005 03:51 PM

i never get on Fodor's after i've had my wine... i get in enough trouble here sober lately!

tedgale Nov 23rd, 2005 03:52 PM

Gee, who gets to quit at 5 o'clock? I should be so lucky. I'm ensconced here at home (7:50 pm) with my glass of red wine, looking for an excuse to avoid opening my briefcase.

But in spirit, I'm with you: Here's to wine, Fodor's and (my habit of) avoidance.

kswl Nov 23rd, 2005 04:00 PM

I am sitting here sneaking a peek at my computer in the calm before the Thanksgiving storm... we moved into a new house Thursday last, and are having 50 people for lunch tomorrow. I should have my head examined. Or not, there couldn't possibly be anything in there to look at, obviously!

artlover Nov 23rd, 2005 04:28 PM

francophile03...so, now you know--the truth is out...that explains my typos! (Among other things....)

francophile03 Nov 23rd, 2005 04:41 PM

Yes, I and everyone else knows! :) But no matter!

artlover Nov 23rd, 2005 04:41 PM

maitatom--good question...

lawchick--depends...somedays Spanish reds, some Italians, some Californians, some local--Washington and sometime even Volka! In Europe, always the house...they've never failed me there (or maybe it's because I'm already high without them)

tedgale--cheers!

Artlover, I had to go pour myself a jelly-glass of California's finest "Chianti" jug wine before replying.

I think you're fairly safe here on Fodor's to have a cozy glass of wine or two. What's problematic is when you mix reading the local newspaper and your after-work cocktail, with access to a computer handy. I did that once and received a horrifying call from the newspaper editorial staff the next morning, wanting to publish my impassioned letter to the editor, which, had it been on paper instead of in cyberspace, would have been badly stained by spilled wine. Thank heavens they had called to ask permission before publishing!

I've never posted an apology for PUI, but there were times when I was extremely grateful a thread I'd replied to intemperately had sinked mercifully out of sight quickly.

Hi Art,

I'm with you. Five o'clock is Happy Hour for me also, time for a break and a look at what's happening on this board.

Cheers Art,

My husband and I always have a glass of wine (or two) around 5:00. If he's late from work and I'm cooking I just start without him. We call it Toddy Time.

Just to prove what bad parents we are, we often call our teens, tell them it's toddy time, and they come with their Dr. Peppers and we just hang out and chat.

StCirq Nov 23rd, 2005 05:18 PM

Five o'clock's early for me. I'm lucky if I'm finished with work and getting dinner on the table by 8 pm.

But yes, I usually have a glass of Pécharmant or Bergerac while I check out Fodor's in the evening.

cmt Nov 23rd, 2005 05:29 PM

No, I don't just sit around drinking wine. I drink wine when I'm eating a meal. I don't eat a meal in the room where I have the computer. So no, it just won't happen that I'm on Fodors when drinking wine.

Diane Nov 23rd, 2005 05:36 PM

I'm having a kir royale as I respond to this thread. I don't ususally have champagne and almost never drink during the work week, but hey, it's the start of a long holiday weekend, and I figured, why not celebrate!

On weekends, when I'm on Fodor's, I almost always have a glass of wine in hand. Same when I'm watching travel shows on TV about Europe! Just seems to make sense.

Cheers,
Diane

I'm on a Aussie Cab roll, lately.
Presently sipping a 2001 Craneford Barossa Valley Cab. Still young , tannic and acidic. Some semblance of ripe black fruit lurks.

I started with this at dinner - around 8 here on the East Coast. Hence, I was with you and still going.

Cheers.

huddoshols Nov 23rd, 2005 06:15 PM

Wherever we are in the world and even if we are at home 5pm is definately Happy Hour. Great to hear someone enjoying a Barossa red,I live about 1 hour from there. Some fantastic wines come from there, large wineries and small.

artlover Nov 23rd, 2005 06:17 PM

well, i'm back...had my dinner in the dining room with DH...a non-breakable run for me is no food with the computer...now wine is a different story (though I have white carpet in my office and should be more careful...maybe that's why I like vodka?) ...well, except for a piece of chocolate now and then...

yes, this feels like a friday 'cause of Thanksgiving tomorrow...

Well, Fodors is one of the things I'm truly thankful for...

am doing a comparasion test with DD tomorrow (my "Italian" daughter?) between an Italian red and local (Mt. Baker) red...will post results... anyone wagering on this?

cioa!
