Anyone done Nice Airport to Grasse (by bus)?

I have to be at a wedding in Grasse, but was told a taxi costs 80 Euro! I see a bus (500) to Grasse from Terminal 1, has anyone got experience with this? it is only 1 euro, but I am nervous about going on a long winded ride and getting there too late.

Well since Grasse is only a few kilometres from Nice Airport and the bus goes straight there it can't be much more than a half hour or 45 minutes or less. If not staying in Grasse you can take a train from Grasse to Cannes and change there to the coastal railway to points all up and down the Cote d'Azur, including Nice.

I have taken that bus the full length from Nice. First, look at the time table, http://www.lignesdazur.com/ftp/ligne...igne%20500.pdf.

The nominal travel time by bus is about 70 min. If this is already too long, then a bus is not relevant to begin with.

Do taxis do better? Probably. Unless you are doing the trip off hours, the route to Grasse, no matter how you approach it, get steady, if not heavy, traffic during the day. You might get there in 40 min if you are lucky or in similar time as a bus if congested.

If these time differences matter to you, perhaps there were not enough time between Nice Airport (landing time?) to arrival in Grasse to begin with.

I've taken the bus to Grasse from NIce, but from the main bus station, not the airport. It is much more than a few kilometers, about 40. It did take a while due to the road conditions, of course, they aren't major highways. I think it did take about an hour, I'd go by the schedule. It costs more than one euro, not sure where you see that price. A trip just within Nice on the bus costs 1.5 euro. I think that bus to Grasse was more than just a local bus, but whatever, it is certainly cheap enough.

The train alone takes about 1:20 direct, but the train station isn't really right in the main part of Grasse town but on the edges, which is why a lot of people take the bus for a day trip. Then are you closer to the center of town. But it depends where you want to go in Grasse.

You'll shave off a little time by taxi just because you miss a couple stops, but there aren't many stops after the airport, anyway (only 2).

Thank you everyone! I am ok with an hour, just was concerned if it is very unreliable or shows up very late, as much more than an hour might become an issue. I am going to a hotel in Grasse, but not in the center of town so I might need a local cab once there. I just wanted to avoid a 80Euro fare when there is a bus that seems fairly pleasant direct from the airport.

Chances are the bus will pass by your hotel and there may be a stop near it. I'd ask the driver about that - show him/her the address.

The Nice-Côte d'Azur airport has a huge bus station with buses going everywhere in the region. They are very reliable.

We took the bus from Nice (centre) to Grasse last September. It cost 1.5euro per person and took more than an hour (from memory as much as an hour and a half). There is also a bus from Grasse train station to the centre of Grasse but the bus would be more convenient from the Nice airport.

Also note that there are lots of buses that leave from Nice airport but there is also a bus stop outside the airport (on the main road) and many buses stop there and do not enter the airport itself so check the stop carefully.

There is also a train station or stop on that main road outside the airport so you can take the train to Grasse quicker if you can get out to the main road by some bus.

Many thanks! Is it obvious where the Airport Bus stop is (Terminal 1) compared o the main road stop? (hope so!). Also from what I've read the train station in Nice is not walking distance to the Airport which is why I was leaning towards the bus. Lastly, it seems the bus (Ligne 500) drop off is Grasse Gare Routiere, is this somewhat central to everything else?

Christina May 5th, 2014 09:42 AM

no, the Nice train station is not walking distance from the airport, for sure.

The bus station is now on pl Buanderie. It's not too far from teh main center of town where the perfume museum is, etc (it's next to a church), I walked it but it was uphill a bit, as I recall. I don't remember how far, but I didn't have luggage. This is the city's website with bus info
http://www.ville-grasse.fr/grasse/me...e_de_transport

this should be sort of a map of where it is http://fr.mappy.com/activite/transpo...ae4bef54e39c90

Where exactly are you going?

dreamon May 6th, 2014 01:37 AM

Grasse gare routiere is pretty central.

No train station near Nice airport.

I think you could easily walk to the bus stop on the main road from the airport terminal but check the website for Nice airport to be sure. I can't remember exactly how far it was but seemed quite close.

When taking buses there, two small bags will be easier to manage than one large one (or better still, one small one).

Thanks Christine (and Dreamon), this is so helpful!

Going to a Bastide (Mathieu) for a wedding which I don't think is walking distance from the town so probably have to pick up a cab. Coming from the U.S. but will be bringing only 1 duffel (medium carry on).

Or rent a car at Nice airport. That could be cheaper than taking taxis. But check if your hotel has free parking.
