Anyone been to Villa D'Este in the evening?

We spend our days dreaming of Rome and can't wait to get there in September. I read somewhere that Villa d'Este can be great to visit in the evening.

Anyone done this? If so, is it better than a day time visit and is it difficult to get back to Rome? Any info is appreciated.

Oh yes...a few years back indeed a memorable visit to Villa d'Este with many lights illuminating the fountains. I was in a bus tour so don't know about getting back to Rome.

We so enjoyed the evening in Villa D'Este, denisea. As Bill said the lights illuminating the fountains is very beautiful. We went with our rental car and I don't remember a problem getting back to Rome. And since we never visited during the day I can't compare of course. I am sure you will enjoy your visit whether you go during the day or at night.

I am sure it is beautiful day or night, but I am intrigued by the floodlit fountains. We generally aren't "tour people" but maybe we should for this.

It just sounds to good to pass up. I am so glad to hear your positive comments on going during the evening. It is greatly appreciated.

If you have the time and evidently you do, denisea, I feel sure you would enjoy and always remember your time at the Villa D'Este. And enjoy all your time in wonderful Rome, it is a city that enthralls even if at times one can feel a bit frustrated. You will have life time memories I am sure.

Many thanks, LoveItaly! I am certain we will love our trip. I was in Italy only once before (15 yrs ago, I think) but never Rome. I know I am a better traveler! We are really looking forward to it all ans Villa d'Este sounds so beautiful!

Denisea, we just returned from our trip to the "Land Down Under", and have been interested in catching up on the latest details of your trip plans to Italy. A night visit to Villa D'Este sounds beautful. If (no when!) we return to Rome, we'd like to do that. Unfortunately, when we visited a few year ago, many of the fountains weren't in operation, but it was still beautiful! Enjoy your trip anticipation!

Thanks....we are taking the edge off with a quick trip to NYC in May! LowCountryIslander heads to Rome in 2 days and I am jealous!

Denisea,

NYC is a fun place to "take the edge off". We've been talking about a late spring mini-visit. Have fun planning!
Would love to be heading to Rome, only not quite yet, as we're still getting back into things at home after being gone so long. It's always fun to have that "next trip" to look forward to, isn't it?

I've been there in the day time, but now I want to see it at night.

I have gotten some encouragement to go at night from some in the know folk in Rome via Twitter...we are going to do it if it is available while we are there. I think it wiill be gorgeous!
