Anyone been to Seville recently?

I was going to splurge and stay at the Alfonso XIII. Their website has posted a note stating that part of the front is closed off due to construction of the subway. Is this construction disrupting all of Seville? Is it going to be terribly noisy at the Alfonso because of this. I hate to spend this much money and be miserable. I am going in October. I'd love to hear from someone that has been recently. Please advise

We were in Seville for almost 2 weeks at Xmas and loved every second. There is a lot of construction work going on all over the city - it more affects the look of it than disruptions due to noise or lack of access. We stayed in Santa Cruz at an apartment and if I recall that hotel correctly (haven't found my travel notes!) there is work going on near it but would not be at night. The hotel looks lovely but we didn't go in. We sat outside at cafes and restaurants most lunch and dinners and were never much disturbed by noise of construction - I think most of the noisy stuff is underground. I would hope that by October much of it would be complete - but have no idea. We will be back in Seville in July - again staying in Santa Cruz.

We just got back on Tuesday from 2 weeks in Spain where we spent 4 days in Seville and loved the city. There is a lot of construction around the entire city and the road right in front of the Alfonso XIII is all torn up. We went inside and had a coffee and I don't remember being disturbed by the noise at all. But, my husband did comment on our way out that it would be a pain to have all the construction if we were staying there. All of the work didn't affect our stay in the city at all and it probably wouldn't deter me from staying at the hotel. I'm sure they would do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. Plus, by then a lot of the work might be done. They are working long hours to complete the work, especially part of it by the big festival in April. You'll have a great time.

Re the Alfonso.

I assume you have read ALL the TripAdvisor reviews.

We stayed there a couple of years ago (pre new Metro constuction) and we are happy we did. it is within very easy walking distance of the cathedral, Alcazar, etc.
We had an over-the-top decorated room and found the service to be excellent.

I trust you'll enjoy your stay as much as we did.
