Anyone been to Organ Vespers in Venice?

Hi, has anyone been to the organ vespers at the Basilica della Salute in Venice? What exactly is it? Thanks, Shirley

I've been to the organ vespers 3 or 4 times. Basically it's a free organ recital of classical music on Saturday afternoon at 4pm that goes for about 1 hour. A program is available in the church. I've always been in winter, so I'm not sure how busy it would be at other times of the year, but I've never had a prblem getting a seat. Information (in Italian) is available at the Salute web site www.marcianum.it/salute/

Maryk, thanks for the info. We noticed this is scheduled while we are in Venice this month, so I think we will give it a try. Shirley

Dear LuvtoRoam,
Thanks for mentioning this - i am going to Venice in November to sing with a choir and I think that the DF I am going with would like to go to mass on sunday.
I couldn't get the web-site to print the times ,and my italian isn't that hot - could you let us know how you get on when you get back?
Have a great trip,
Ann

I was at San Giorgio (island across from San Marco) last year and attended a weekday "chanting" Mass that included 14 monks and myself. It was really an enjoyable experience as most of the monks took the time after Mass to say hello ect..

annhig-I will let you know. I too am having a hard time re-tracing how I found that info. If I find the proper link I will let you know, otherwise I will post when we return. Barbmike, thanks for the input. This sounds like an interesting, not-touristy thing to experience! Shirley

annhig-here is the link to events going on in Venice
http://www.turismovenezia.it/eng/dynalay.asp?PAGINA=407
It has a calendar and you can choose the days you wish to see. We were looking at the 23rd (Saturday) and on page 8 is where I found the Organ Vespers entry. I see there is also a free concert at Sant'Andrea in Cannaregio (4118 Fondamenta Sant'Andrea) very near where we will stay. Good luck, hope you find something of interest on that site. Shirley

Dear Luv - thanks very much for the link. i'm planning three trips simultaneously at present, and venice is the third, so I think planning for that trip will have to wait a bit.
Perhaps i should delegate to the DF I'm gonig with?
