Anyone Been To Calella de Costa on the Costa Brava

Has anyone been to this area/resort. I have got the chance of a last minute reduced trip to Hotel Volga. What's the area like? Would it be OK or the holiday from hell.

Where exactly is it? Is it near Calella de Palafrugell? That's a gorgeous little beach town right on the coast, a lovely spot.

Yes it's a bit further down the same stretch of coast near Santa Susanna.

Have you checked tripadvisor.com? That's usually a good source for hotel/resort reviews.

Calella de la Costa has nothing to do with the beautiful resort of Calella de Palafrugell on Costa Brava. The former is on Costa Meresme (named after a local river), on the coastline east of Barcelona. It used to be popular with German and British tourists in the 70s and 80s, but times and tourists have moved on and now are decidedly downmarket and cater mainly to budget tour groups from Eastern Europe, who come on overnight coaches. Many hotels and pensions show signs of decay and you see many boarded-up shops, bars and resturants still with German and English signs. I do not recommend staying there. You'd be better off at Blanes, the first resort on Costa Brava in the Girona province, and Tossa de Mar further west, which is beautifully situated with genuine local feel.
