Anyone been to Burgundy?
We plan on going to Paris and then going to Burgundy. There probably is a train that takes you there. My question is, what's your advice on renting a car once we get there to explore the area? Is it necessary? Anyone stay in Burgundy and know a good place? We plan on exploring the vineyards and wines there.

Dear MS,
There are trains from Paris to Dijon (see www.voyages-sncf.com).
For car rental try www.novacarhire.com and www.autoeurope.com.
For places to stay, enter <hotel AND Dijon> and <hotel AND Beaune>
Also check out http://www.myhomeindijon.com/

Hi everyone!
Thanks ira, BTW did you get my answer to your email? I still get an error message, yahoo seems not to be working properly.
Travelnut I think cotedor tourisme made a mistake on the English page. the link seems to be from last year, I can see it from the cover of the self catering accommodation brochure. My apartment was not rated yet in this one (but was already on the cover )
The new brochure is here http://tinyurl.com/o6xdg (and I'm still on the cover! just a little bit of the red sofa)
msrami here are a few car rental companies you can find at Dijon railway station.

Europcar as well.
How long will you be staying? Keep in mind that you don't need a car in Dijon, you can use buses or trains to go to Beaune. And you can even have your personal chauffeur

Burgundy is big, stretching from Chabis to Beaujolais. A car is necessary to visit the small wineries particulaly some of the charming family run vintners. I like to stay in Beaune and the Hotel Le Cedre on the ring road. It is a delightful small town that can be walked easily. Also like Les Maritonnes in Beaujolais. Get a good guide book which centers on wine routes and you will enjoy yourself immensly.

I agree about having a car--much easier to visit wineries.
How much time will you have? Burgundy is huge--you'll have to decide just where you want to spend your time. I imagine that you will want to concentrate on the vineyards of the Côe de Nuit and the Côte d'Or.
I'd recommend taking the TGV from Paris to Dijon and picking up a car there. Try to factor in some time to see a bit of Dijon, and Beaune, too. Both are picturesque and interesting.
