Anyone been to Aspley House
 

Looks interesting. Anyone been there?

Several times. Its address - "#1 London" - tells most of what you need to know. The art is fabulous - lots of Spanish works - Goya and Velasquez - and Rubens, etc. Plus Wellington memoribilia of course.

YES!!! Loved it!!! Once guide book said that Apsley House was a bust but we went anyway and thorougly enjoyed it. See if you can't catch a tour as the having the guide explain the history of the house makes it much more memorable. <BR><BR>If you like Apsley House you will also like Spencer House.

I agree, really liked it. My husband enjoyed it also. The battle costumes with elaborate swords etc., and all the porcelain, and just seeing the interior of the great house was very interesting to us.

It might be too late to ask those who've been there but anyway.<BR>Is Aspley House a house that has been opened in more or less its original state or is it just a shell of what it was when people lived there and has become a museum.<BR><BR><BR>

Thanks. This is great.<BR><BR>In NY last Thanksgiving we went to the Met and a day or so later went to the Frick mansion. Enjoyed that more.<BR><BR>This looks like the same idea.<BR>

Myer,<BR>If you enjoyed the Frick in New York and are interested in the Apsley House in London, consider a visit to the Sir John Soane Museum in London as well.<BR><BR>Soane was an architect with a truly eclectic interest in just about everything. His house,which he designed, dates from the early 1800s and houses his astounding collection of art, architectural drawings, various machines, models, furnishings and the sarcophagus of the father of Rameses III. Soane stipulated, in bequeathing his home to the city of London, that nothing be removed or moved. What you'll see is what Soane saw and lived with while a resident. It's located in New Square, part of Lincoln's Inn. Holborn is the nearest underground station. When in the square look for Soane's home, it's number 13 in the middle of the north side of the square. Look, too, for numbers 57 and 58 which are also Soane' handiwork.
