rialtogirl, this is pretty funny--I went to the website of the company I used before, and "my" apartment was not listed. So I googled the restaurant--Restaurace U Seminaristy--and lo and behold, looks like a new company is renting out the apartments. I could have sworn the address was 35, but it's 45 Spalena.

I think I stayed in Apartment A....and suddenly, I do remember one thing about the shower. As you can see, it looks like you're going camping! But I would stay there again. Loved the restaurant food.

Thanks MelissaHI - great info! Like you, I never keep anything in my outside purse pockets either - except used kleenex, ... and it serves them right if they get that!
amp322 - thank you - I'm getting new luggage wheels, so I think it may be time to upgrade to rollerblade quality.
Thanks, sallyjane3!

I'm newly single and have a habit of going to Europe for Thanksgiving that I don't want to give up. I've been contemplating travelling by myself to Prague, and this thread (and the link to SlowTrav) have been very inspiring. Thank you!

I am in Prague now and am a single female in my early 40's.
I am staying at the Arcadia Residence (click on my name to see my post on this hotel - highly recommended!!). It is in Vysehrad which is about 1 mile outside the town center. It is a block away from a tram stop (very easy to use) and the owner and his mother are like family to my already!! Very nice people.
I have traveled to many places in Europe by myself - I feel very safe here.
I have been to dinner at night and to a water/ballet show, I have also just wandered around at night - I felt very safe. I haven't been to a pub but I have walked by many and there seems to be plenty of women.
Most of the area is full of tourists day and night, lots of Americans. All the Czech's that I have encountered were very friendly and polite and all spoke a little English.
I will post a trip report when I get home but so far this is probably one of my most favorite place in Europe (although Cuenca, Venice and the Almafi Coast come close).
