Any restaurants w. non-smoking rooms?- I found one in Venice
 

I realize finding a restaurant w. a no smoking section in Italy is as likely as finding Ted Kennedy sober, HOWEVER, I found one, Ae Oeche, in Venice w. a no smoking room by accident during my research, so I'm thinking though rare, they do exist. Any suggestions for Rome, Florence, Venice? <BR> <BR>And any angry smokers readying your fingers to type out some bitchy response to me - save your energy. I happen to have an allergy to smoke which causes a migraine like headache w.in about 10 minutes of continuous breathing of the stuff. (Yes I plan to be in much pain during my trip and am stocking up on excedrin). <BR> <BR>Thank god I at least found a hotel in Florence w. non smoking rooms. I'd be extremely grateful if anyone could let me know of any restaurants where I might not suffocate and suffer extreme pain while trying to eat. Gracias!

I don't think much of your Ted Kennedy joke, but Hotel Violin D'Oro in Venice is all non-smoking. <BR> <BR>

I sympathize with you....I'm about to go to Europe for the first time, and the smoke will be difficult for me because I too am allergic. <BR> <BR>By the way, Ted Kennedy actually stopped drinking several years ago. I didn't appreciate the comment either. FOR GODS SAKE! I asked a legit que about non smoking rooms in restaurants. Out of 10 responses I got ONE, count it, ONE answer. The rest were going off on tangents about Ted Kennedy. It was a joke! But for the record, I'm frightened that there are any people out there who'd be dumb enough to defend the likes of Ted Kennedy. Jeez!!

Thanks to the poster who reco'd smokefreeworld.com. I found a link there to a webpage run by an Italian doctor/anti smoke crusader who lists tons of restaurants ALL OVER ITALY that either have no smoking rooms or are COMPLETELY non smoking. I'm now able to breathe a little easier in anticipation of my trip(literally).

If I could offer some advice ?? I too am extremely allergic to cigarette smoke. If you go online at www.magellans.com you will see a mini personal air purifier for around $145. I bought one for both myself and my husband before we went to Paris several years back and it worked like a charm. They are small enough so as to be un-intrusive, are quiet, and best of all if you have it hanging around your neck while dining you WON'T smell the smoke!! It really saved us and helped us to enjoy each and every meal we had without choking. It was worth every penny. You should really check it out. We leave for Italy on the 30th of this month for 2 weeks and these air purifiers will definitely be with us !! <BR>Also, I would suggest taking 1 or 2 small bottles of FeBreaze (spelling?). it works wonders when sprayed on clothes that reek from cigarette smoke, pretty much takes the odor away........... <BR>Deb

Thanks Deb. I actually already bought one of those personal air purifiers from Sharper Image, although honestly I would prob feel odd wearing it in a restaurant (I got it more for the plane). It looks like a small pair of binoculars hanging on my neck. Also got the Febreze.

I thought I would feel wierd wearing it around my neck while eating also, but the mini one is so small I got used to it very quickly and it was a real relief while eating! Not having to worry about smelling smoke while I am eating is the best.................

Don't those purifiers actually draw the smoky air to the mechanism, hanging just inches (a foot, perhaps) below your nose? Wouldn't you be better off just breathing the stagnant air, than attracting it to your self, which smoky air you will breathe before it hits the purifier?

I don't smoke, but it really doesn't bother me to be around it unless smoke is just hanging thick in the air. <BR>I wonder why nobody was allergic to cigarette smoke back in the 50s and 60s. "Everybody" smoked all the time, everywhere, indoors and out. Now it seems "everybody" is allergic to smoke, but only cigarette smoke, not auto exhaust or other forms of air pollution. Is evolution making our respiratory systems weaker as years go by? What's going on?

It is only Americans, mostly from west coast who are "allergic" only to smoke from tobacco. Auto fumes, smoke from bar-b-q fire, etc. is ok. <BR>Strange.

Strange, how dare you question someone's allergy? If you told me you were allergic to peanuts, or certain types of carpeting, or you name it, I'd accept it, not insult you. People can develop allergies to just about anything,including their partner's sperm! <BR> <BR>For the record, bus fumes bother me too. Car exhaust, if I breathe it long enough, has the same effect. Fortunately I almost never am in a situation where my nose is inches from the gas pipe. But being in close proximity to burning cigarrettes has a much worse effect on me. <BR> <BR>If we are going to get technical here, I do believe smoke has a wider variety and higher number of toxic cancer causing chemicals than exhaust. <BR> <BR>One other thing to keep in mind - I am NOT breathing exhaust or any of the other things you mentioned when I am INDOORS trying to EAT.

Meg - If you breathed carbon monoxide fumes for two hours, you would probably die. Smokers do their smoking thing for forty years before they die. Which puts them at about the same time as non-smokers, dying at around the age of 60-80, depending on all other circumstances. And while you're dining indoors, do you ever think about all the carcinogens in your (microwaved) food?

I'm so sick of all you smokers telling non-smokers that they don't have the RIGHT to breathe clean air. If you were as allergic to tobacco and cigar smoke as I am, you would change your tune. I'm an EX-SMOKER. Quit over 20 years ago. I have now been told by physicians that one of the reasons I am so allergic is that in fact I am an ex-smoker. They say your lungs never really adapt to that of a persons lungs that has never smoked therefore making you intolerate smoke in the air and around you. If you tried to sit down and eat a nice meal and had to stop every 5 minutes choking from the smoke around you maybe you'd have some compassion!!
