Any recommended stops for a drive between Geneva and Paris?
Hello, we are planning our honeymoon in this area and looking for suggestions of great little places to stop between Geneva and Paris. We will be renting a car and we are flexible with our schedule. Our order will be Switzerland first then France, as we are flying home from Paris. Thanks in advance for your input!

Auxerre, Beaune and Semur en Auxois are all really nice little towns along the way.
We spent a night on a barge a few years ago on the Burgundy canal in Vandenesse en Auxois, which was terrific. The website is dijon-rentahome.com. Max and Beatrice Renau are the proprietors.

Auxerre is a real must as beaux says, also Chablis or Tonnerre. Beaunne is a little twee for me but has a good centre with a lot of tourist support.
Some good monesteries one at Pontigny. I'd look at google maps but put the photos switch on and then look at which photos interest you the most.

Dijon is my second favorite large city in France, and Beaune is in my "top 5" medium-sized cities. Lots of castles in Burgundy to visit . Auxerre is charming, as others have noted. Not a huge fan of Semur, however. Troyes is very interesting, as is Provins. Didn't like Sens that much.

We loved visiting Vezelay - and staying at an Old Mill next to a national forest preserve - Les Moulin de Ruats - at Avallon - not far from Auxerre. Very quaint and the food is fantastic. When we were there many of the guests had come out for the weekend just for the food (and the forest).

I am looping the alps starting from geneva, route des grandes alpes, gorges du verdon, st tropez, cannes, nice, genoa, cinque terre, milan, como, lucerne over 3.5 weeks and then in switzerland for a week. I wont drive the entire loop and will only do a one way car hire from Geneva through the route des grandes alpes to gorges du verdon and wanted an advice on the best car drop off point from the cote d'azur towns depending on the one way charge and feasibility of using a car at the cote d'azur from the traffic and narrow streets and parking issues. I was planning to do day hires of motor cycle or car for sightseeing the cote d'azur detours and public transport for city hopping.
thanks in advance.
