Any recent talk about Alitalia financial trouble
I'm about to book tickets for a trip this summer and Alitalia has the best prices/times. I know they had financial troubles last year but haven't heard anything recently. Do you Alitalia experts think it's safe to book for a trip this summer. Thanks

I'm not sure I would connect a one day strike this week, with financial forecasts for summer! Not predictive of good nor bad things on the horizon, from what little I would try to speculate!
Best wishes,

Thanks for that link. That doesn't really worry me too much, I guess one day strikes are pretty common in Italy. But the whole going bankrupt thing from last year is what I'm talking about. I know the government stepped in to bail them out but it wasn't clear for how long. I know the last time it came up several people who followed Italian news were able to say what the latest news was. I haven't seen anything in the news lately but then I don't read Italian news.

One website you might you want check is the International Herald Tribune. Click on Sections and then click on Travel.
The website is www.iht.com
They do a pretty good job of reporting this kind of thing.

Wow, I wasn't expected to be scolded for supplying a link. And my "doesn't sound good" was referring to the link I provided, and was not intended to be a know-it-all forecast of all future Alitalia flights.
Isabel, let us know if you find anything.

Do you think I "scolded" you?
All I said was that I don't think that knowing about the strike provides an answer to the original poster's question.
I think you even agree with that.

No, the other thread I referenced does not give her a full and complete answer to her question, but she was asking about Alitalia, and I remembered recently seeing a thread concerning a slew of flights being canceled and thought it may be of interest to her.
Rex, you should know that CAPS and !s are seen as shouting.

I didn't use any CAPS! And when used with language that is anything but emphatic, I think that use of an exclamation point is more like the use of the French expression "Mais, non!"
There are very limited ways to add "voice inflection" to a post here.

Jocelyn - thanks for that original post. I have checked it out as well as the link loveitaly gave. I've also googled it and all I can find is that most of the unions involved with Alitalia have signed contractts but that one did not and is still in negotiations and strikes are still possible. As rex pointed out (and I agree with that) an occassional strike is not something that can really be predicted. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a high likllihood that they'd go out of business in the next 4 months.
I know there are people on this board who are much more up to date about the condition of international airlines than I am, so if any of you are reading, tell me what you think. I'm about to book it. Thanks.
