Fodor's does have a forum called "Other Topics" but I believe it is underused because most of us post (and look for replys) on the Europe, US, Asia ,and so forth forums.

I also like the idea of seperate forums for popular destinations. However, maybe we could also have a forum for multi stop holidays?

The strongest possible NO to separate forums for separate countries. You can already have that, if you wish, by filtering on a specific country.

I wish Fodors would just stay the same,I like the way it is and it's why I keep coming back. And no, I am not a troll and no I'm not a meanie. I am however shy and prefer to remain anon.

Constant indexing, at least once a day.
And get rid of the country search. It's totally messed up and a waste of time, especially for those who think it actually works.
Since the total amount of threads will drastically go down after registration and threads will sink at a slower pace, a good search function with up to date indexing will be just fine.

You already ruined the forum by your demands for registration. Now you want to further sanitize it. When it is all over there will be no forum, just a guidebook.

Please DON'T remove the country search - however imperfect at least it works immediately without having to wait for indexing.

Oh, I really, really hope they keep the option of displaying your e-mail address!!! (In the new registration form, it says that your e-mail address will not be displayed).

I get a lot of e-mails from people who will be traveling to Shanghai or other places I've been, or who want to know what it's like to be an expat or how they can do it . . . I've met a lot of great people through this site (and recently had tea with a Fodorite friend while in London!).

Please, please, Fodors: Allow us an OPTION to include an e-mail address!

I would LOVE to have an edit function. I do proof my message, but somehow there's always an error somewhere. Gremlins, I guesss.

I agree with Steve that the current layout of messages is really user-friendly. Also the suggestions for a separate area for "other than strictly travel-related" posts - perhaps as a subsection of the regional forum.

I would also like to be able to access the links that are quoted by others in their messages by clicking on them directly, rather than having to paste them into my browser.

Are condescending posts really going to disappear with registration? Or does that assume the forums will be moderated in real-time once registration is implemented?

The forum will be moderated in exactly the same way as before because there is no other way of doing it.
Someoneone will have to scan through the posts & get rid of the offensive ones.
All that has changed is that no casual questions will appear, ie it will become boring.
Goodbye from me...

Sorry you feel that way Frank. There will still be plenty of room for humor and fun -- what will [hopefully] disappear are the personal attacks and the offensive troll messages. On the other hand if that's why you visit this forum -- maybe you're making the right decision.

Sally, what about questions where the poster feels shy about posting since s/he feels it is a dumb question. Questions like "what is a bidet" , "how to ride the tube" If you just want to answer questions about hotels, what to wear, what will the temperature be like.... eventually you'll get bored and leave too.

Delete any posts with the words Maui or Kauai in it. So sickening.

On the split forum, when it was tried before it was withdrawn because so many knowledgeable people (and I don't mean me, before some has a go) wanted to come to one place and one place only. It was more about the answers than the questions.

I'd love the search function to be more refined and up to date. I'd love to be able to edit posts I'd made (mostly to fix the typing mistakes) and I'd love to have a write in section on rants and raves
