Any Info on New Marriott Park Lane?
 

This question has been asked before, but I'm hoping someone has some idea what this hotel--due to open in November--will be like. How will it compare to the other London Marriotts? Will the rooms be luxurious, or "standard"? I assume the location will be great. What was this property before Marriott took it over? It's impossible to get these facts from the Marriott website. Thank you!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in March. What a dump! We stayed one night and checked out early -- among the many surprises: dirty bed linens, dirty toilet, roaches in bathroom. What a mess. Never again.<BR><BR>

I am not sure that the location will be great. Park Lane is dual carriageway, and can be crossed only at Marble Arch, Hyde Park Corner, and one or two other spots. It has few shops, and those expensive, on the lines of jewellers and Afghan carpet dealers. Busses southbound are many, but northbound are across the wall of traffic. Tube stations are up to ten minutes walk away. And my main point, the streets for strolling to the east are low on shops until you reach Bond Street, and on restaurants till you reach Shepherds Market.<BR><BR>It will be fine if you plan to use taxis chiefly.<BR><BR>Please write if I can help further. Ben, thanks so much for the helpful info. Do you think the Marriott Grosvenor Sq. would be better in terms of nearby restaurants/shops/accessibility to tourist attractions? We are a family with 3 teenagers. We previously stayed at the Marriott County Hall (we have lots of Marriott points). Another possibility is the Milestone, a small hotel apparently loaded with atmosphere, near Kensington Palace. Our daughters love comfort and great atmosphere (well, okay, so do we). Where would you choose to stay? Thanks for the advice.

Lois: Grosvenor Sq would be fine - but the Milestone is REALLy great. It is directly across from kensington Gardens and near High St Kens tube. It is very POSH. I don't know if your points are also good for the flats at the Milestone - but if so they would be fantastic for a family. They have very delux 2 bedroom apartments with all the amenities of the hotel including room service, concierege etc.

Like Janis, I would say for interesting surroundings choose first the Milestone and second Grosvenor Gardens.<BR><BR>Ben Haines

I'm planning on visiting London in Feb and can stay at either the Marriott Park Lane or Renaissance Chancery Court using points. This is planned as a romantic long weekend with my wife.<BR>Would appreciate comments on the relative merits of each hotel and location.

I have stayed at the Renaissance and like it a lot. It is in a beautifully restored old baroque-style building. The hotel opened about a ago, so it has all the mod cons, as they say. Rooms are very large, mostly like junior suites, with nice large bathrooms. They have a very good spa – your wife would love that! They have an excellent restaurant, QC. It is near the Holborn tube station. It is not as centrally located at the Park Lane (although the poster above doesn't seem to like the location of Park Lane). However, we actually walked back on several evenings – once from the West End (a bit of a walk I will admit) and once from the Oxo Tower area. <BR><BR>You might also consider Marriott County Hall, which is almost always reviewed favorably on this site. The view from the river view rooms would be very romantic! Great location on the river for the London Eye, Houses of Parliament, etc.<BR>
