Will be in England & Scotland in October and am looking for moderately priced hotels near London Gatwick Airport.

There are a number of towns close to Gatwick that the travel agency's call "convenient to Gatwick". I only know of a few that people have stayed at: Russ Hill Hotel in Charlwood; The White Horse in Dorking and Gatwick Skylodge and The George both in Crawley.

Try Le Meridian which is connected to the airport's North and South terminals via shuttle train or walkway. Very convenient, reasonable, clean. We used it in a pinch just last month and were very satisfied. Gatwick is a very user friendly international airport.

We have flown into Gatwick twice and each time stayed in a town called Horley just outside of Gatwick airport. They have a number of B&B's that will pick you up at airport and/or return you to airport. Horley also has one of our favorite pubs, Six Bells--terrific! We usually book our B&B in Horley on the day we arrive for the last night of our stay so we can enjoy our trip right up to the very end.

I second Barbara's suggestion for the Six Bells pub in the charming town of Horley. I also love the Checquers Hotel there - great atmosphere, not at all your typical airport hotel. Have fun!

Do you know how much is the B&B per person?
Does the B&B charge to take you to the airport?
My wife and I are planning to spend our last night
by the airport before we leave in early December.
Thanks!

The Travel Inn chain has a property there that is very reasonable - 36.50 pounds/room/night. You can look them up at www.travelinn.co.uk. My husband has stayed there and found it quite adequate for an overnight stay. It's near the north terminal, and they do have an airport shuttle.

We ended up staying at the MOAT Hotel near
the Ramada by the airport. It was 75 pounds a night,
kind of expensive but good accomodations with
airport transport. The travel inn is cheap but
they book up fast.

recently overnighted at the Holiday Inn Gatwick, which runs a shuttle from the airport and provides clean, comfortable accommodation at a moderate rate. Be sure to reserve a space on the shuttle for your return to tghe airport! We had a "Great Rate" of about 75 pounds
