Shelly, you should Google Alitalia pilot strike. Now, I may have gotten the year wrong because they write their dates differently over there, but it looked to me like there would be a strike May 3, which is expected to overlap to May 4, but I don't know if it would interfere with your plans on the 5th. Of course, they may go belly-up before then, so this wouldn't even matter.

Sorry, Shelly, I got the year wrong. That was 2007. Didn't mean to cause you a heart attack! My humble apologies!!

Holy cripes, Katherine! You did give me a heart attack! ;)

Thanks for reposting, so I could take the nitroglycerin patch out from under my tongue.

When you read the article (4/15/2008)on Frommer's Budget Travel that Alitalia may stop flying soon ..... that certainly can put a kink in one's vacation plans.

"More immediately, the Italian civil aviation authority is threatening to take away the company's license to fly within the next few weeks."

Give Alitalia a call and inquire about your flights. we just had ours canceled and they couldn't find another for us,- also hadn't notified us, so sent us to Delta who'd done the original booking. They were great, and did find us a fabulous alternative. Call often, because when it comes to finding a flight when one has been canceled it's good to have a jump on options before they get around to notifying everyone. Then hundreds of people need a new flight. It worked for us. Good luck!
