Any ideas for a cheap honeymoon?
A friend of mine is looking for a cheap honeymoon, to spend under 1000 UK pounds (approx $2000), inclusive.
I think a nice, quiet Greek island would be nice, does anyone have any experience of somewhere cheap and romantic they could go? I think flight would be about 150 UK pounds each, and spending money would be about 500 UK pounds for seven days. They have to go between August 9 (day after wedding) and September 1 (she is a schoolteacher).
Your help to make this a very special time away for them is really appreciated, and any other ideas to destination are welcome.

they could do a flight and package deal like most others and stay in a quieter resort. Try Zante, Corfu etcand check pout some of the local busget travel agents for any last minute deals. If you have a better idea of what island they would like we could narrow it down.

Hi 4p,
What are they looking for? Resorts, small village, city?
We spent a week on the Amalfi Coast at the Hotel Le Sirene in Praiano.
See www.lesirene.com
I estimate they could do 4-6 days there for under 1000GBP, including visits to other towns, food and air fare.
www.ryanair.com flies London Stansted to Rome CPO for 11GBP. The train to Naples/Sorrento and bus to Praiano would be about 20GBP each.
See the Amalfi Coast part of my trip report.

Best wishes to your friends.

I'm just in the process of researching the Azores for friends. I'm not sure about airfare prices from the UK (they might have to fly to Lisbon first) but it sounds like food & hotel accomodations are very good value & the islands are beautiful. There's a thread here titled
Has Anyone been to Azores
that has some good info & websites. The nicest part is I think August is a great time there weatherwise etc. Madeira might be another idea.
Malta is another popular spot for inexpensive trips from the UK but I think it's much more touristy.
I assume you know about the websites for discount inter Europe flights
whichbudget.com
applefares.com
skyscanner.net
Might be a good place to start by checking air fare prices.
