Any Honeymoon Itınerary Idea for Italy
 

We plan to spend our honeymon in Italy, for a week in late June, early July. Any suggestions after Rome where we can experience the nice Mediterranen shores in Italy?

We stayed a week on the Amalfi coast last year in a quaint little village Ravello ( 5kms up mtn from Amalfi). Village is well known as the music town - classical concerts. Woke up each morning to church bells from village across the valley. Absolutely gorgeous!!!!Local buses run frequently and you can get a 24 hr bus pass that takes you all over Amalfi coast. We actually walked down to Amalfi one day took around 50 mins. We used buses and visited all towns oncoast from Maiori - Positano, even to Sorrento one day when it was raining. From Amalfi you can get a boat ride to Capri.

From there we travelled by train to the Cinque Terre and stayed in the village of Riomaggiore. We walked the track between the 5 villages. STUNNING!!!!

I wouldn't go to Rome for a honeymoon.

I suggest spending your week on the Amalfi Coast. You can fly RT Naples.

The most beautiful place for me in Italy?
SARDINIA a clean sea, sun for several months of the year, warm weather, white sand beaches. You are in paradise!

You may be disappoined with the Mediteranean shores. Most beaches are pebbles, rather than sand and unless you head to a fou - fou resort many beaches are just sitting in a town, surouned by shops and houses - not large - nothing like the Carib.

I would go for what is really european about the towns and not focus so much on beaches.

I agree, do not over focus on beaches--Italy has so much more to offer.

That said, I agree with Ira, go to Positano and spend a week--flying into and out of Naples. That is a honeymoon.

I WOULD go to Rome for a honeymoon. To each his/her own . . .

Many of the pebbly beaches described have dramatic scenery that you may find pleasing enough to deal with pebbles. There are many sandy beaches on the east coast though the scenery is less dramatic. It al depends on what you were envisioning as "nice Mediterranean shores."

My first choice for a honeymoon would be the Amalfi Coast. I would stay at the Hotel Poseidon, in a room with a view. There are plenty of less expensive options, but that would be my first choice.

Another choice would be Capri. Or splitting my time between the AC and Capri.

I feel that the much loved Cinque Terre is too isolated for any of the cultural or historic things that I love to visit in Italy. If I wanted to visit the Italian Riviera, I would probably choose Santa Margherita Ligure, which is a fun resort town, with access by boat to Portofino, San Fruttuoso abbey, Rapallo, and even the CT by train.

You are going to get a lot of opinions.

If you are committed to Rome, and since you have only one week, I would just go to one other place.

Can you tell us any more about your trip and budget?

I would do Positano after Rome. We stayed at Villa Rosa in Positano after Rome (on our honeymoon) and had a wonderful time. I've also been to the CT and stayed in Santa Margherita, and while I enjoyed it, I'd still choose Positano for a honeymoon.

Dear All, Tahnks a lot for all the suggestions and great opinions. Our budget is not very tight, but on the other hand we do not want to spend "meaningless money" because it is our honeymoon. I understand that it is the question of whether going to Rome or not. Does anyone have any idea of Aleghro in Sardinia
