Any help would be great!

Hi; I will going to Paris the first week of September, 7 nights. It will be my 1st visit. Im staying at the Hotel Familia. Im on a budget. I've read most of the messages on this board. Anymore info would be great. Thanks

Hi Elizabeth
If you've searched on Paris on this message board you should find everything you need, from museum passes to metro passes to restaurantants. It would take you until Sept to read it all!
Buy a good budget-minded guidebook, Rick Steves or such.
I think Fodor's guide to Paris is excellent, but it's not strong on inexpensive places to eat. Great for sightseeing though.

I have a file on Paris; if you'd like to see it, email me.

Thanks Elaine. I appreciate your input. Im reading the boards everyday so, new info all the time. Thanks again!

Hi Elizabeth!
I would suggest you invest in "Frommers" He is really pretty good when it comes to recommending restaurents, accomadations, activities for budget travelers! Any bookstore will have "How To Do Paris on ____ A Day"

CD, Im going to the bookstore this weekend. Thanks!

OK, Is JV really worth it or not? $200 for 2 for lunch??Hmm, better be good. Taxi or shuttle from the airport? Coffee in the 5th around rue des Ecoles, any ideas? My questions are becoming more specific! Thanks all

Elaine - I wanted to thak you for your file on London but I deleted your address by mistake, so thank you!
I can't believe how comprehensive it is - it must have taken you ages to compile!

Thanks again for your generosity

I realize that you're new here so I'm going to give you some posting help. Put your destination in your subject heading. For example "Any help on Paris would be great!". More people will look at your message. Enjoy your stay in Paris!

-JV: only splurge if you want to "be there", ie surrounded by 100 % tourists (80 % Americans). If it's gatronomy you're after, then there are much better ways in Paris to spend 100 bucks
- Taxi will cost you about 40 euros, shuttle is not worth it, given the wait, the winding itinerary, etc. Note that your hotel is on the direct RER line from CDG (7.5 euros one way). But if you had to put up with a dozen hours of plane/airport environment, and it's your first visit, an extra 30 euros won't be too much compared to your overall budget. You'll take the RER to go back to Roissy, when you're more familiar with the city.
- Coffee around rue des Ecoles: approximately every 10 yards on a two mile stretch

Thanks to all. Getting good info each day! I realize Im a bit over zealous right now! So I hope you'll bear with me. To Dan: Do I have to start a new thread or can I change my subject heading on this one? Thanks again

janis May 17th, 2002 10:44 AM

Elizabeth: Unfortunately there is no edit function on Fodors. It would be great - but I suppose that would also require registration so just anyone couldn't modify your thread.

You have gotten some good responses but would probably get a lot more if you start a new thread with a more detailed title.

Doug Weller May 17th, 2002 02:42 PM

Yes, start a new thread, you should get better responses. Too many threads have ambiguous titles.

Doug

Thanks all! Starting new thread
