Any good French movies?
 

We just came back from a fabulous trip to France. Thanks to many of you here, our trip ended up being tres magnifique. We will write our trip report this weekend.
But in the meantime, I was wondering if you can recommend any movies that has to do with France?
We loved it so much and want to be reminded of the beautiful scenery and atmosphere there. I know of Amelie, Forget Paris, French Kiss, The lovers of the bridge, Paris je taime, Chocolate. I will probably rent Somethings gotta give again. I fell in love with that bridge, Pont Alexandre and have to see it again!
But do you know of any other good movies?

The Red Balloon is a classic - set in then grim eastern Paris but so evocative of Paris neighborhoods and French primary school kids.

I'm going to mention m preferred movie ever : "Jean de Florette" and "Manon of the springs" that take place in Provence in the 1920s and can't be seen separately.

I have watched "Au Revoir Les Enfants" several times; it is my favorite Louis Malle film.

If you search movies and cigalechanta you will doubtlessly find a treasure trove as she is a true French cinephile.

Saw one earlier this year at our french film festival...

"Dialogue avec mon jardinier" with Daniel Auteuil. Charming, slice of life movie.

And another I went to see on my last trip to Paris. Comedy with Charlotte Gainsbourg "Prete-moi ta main"

Two movies that are currently in theatres are "Roman de Gare" and "Tell No One". Both in French with English subtitles.

No one has mentioned one of the greatest...filmed in France but American made.

En francais? Rent or buy Three Colors: Blue, White and Red, Krysztof Kieslowski's wonderful trilogy. Juliette Binoche, Julie Delpy and Irene Jacob are the stars of each of these. Be sure to view them in order.

"The Swimming Pool". It takes place in Provence and is in English. Really interesting. On a lighter note "A Good Year".

In L.A., we have seen in the past few months:

Tell No One (action drama)
Roman de Gare (mystery drama)
Grocer's Son (poignant drama)

All three, in the above order, did very well at the local box offices. We thoroughly enjoyed all three.

The chase scene ON FOOT, in Tell No One was a unique classic!
