Any food suggestions in the 6th?
 

We will be staying at the Hotel D'Aubusson for one week in May. Any good food suggestions?

I just noticed that your post has a "-1 response" so far. What is that now-a negative response?

Anyway, I recommend Le Bistrot de Paris which is on rue de Lille in the 7th district but really next to St. Germain. It's a few blocks from rue Jacob.

Other than that one, in general, just see which restaurants appeal to you as their menus are posted outside for you to peruse before going in. Plus there have been many other good suggestions that have been listed by people on Fodors recently.

I discovered Allard, rue St. Andre des Arts, on my recent trip to Paris. It is a neighborhood bistro with a long history, and most of the patrons seemed to be locals. The 3 course prix fixe was 32 euro. We began with a delicious salad of mache and beets with a dressing I'd love to have the recipe for. Heartily recommend; also recommend reservations, if only same day.

That neighborhood is overrun with good choices. Allard, which has already been mentioned, On Rue Christine..Chez Fernand,Rotisserie d'un face,Cafe Christine..around the corner from them..Espadon Bleu,. Fish is nearby as is Za Kitchen Galerie and Bookinistres(sp). Cote Seine is also good..but someone here mentioned it was closed. I'll have to check that out as it was a favorite. There are several good place on Ile d'St.Louis.

I cannot say enough about Le Cameleon - heavenly food and wine at the best possible prices - "inexpensive". VERY freindly staff. 6 Rue de Chevreuse, metro station Vavin, phone - 43-20-63-43. Here's another description:

I agree with jody. We stayed at Relais Christine. Our best eatery near there was Chez Fernand. We were very, very, disappointed in Les Bookintes. We had reservations there for over a month and it was our last night in Paris. The only thing we ate that was good was the simple salad and the dessert. The appetizer of fois gras and duck was awful and so was the veal - just awful. We heard from our tour guide that their chef had just left and gone to Le Kitchen Gallery but when we saw the menu, we stuck wtih Les Bookintes. Big mistake. Chez Ferdanad on the other hand had the best duck we have ever eaten in our lives. Rotisserie Chicken had the best fois gras! and the staff were great to us but it was a lot more expensive than Chez Ferdand. You need reservations at them all but we did go to Rotisserie with a 7:15 reservation made about 5. Have fun! Wish I could have more of that duck right now!

reservethebest.com... it opens in french, you switch it to english (the menus are not in english tho...) and then choose by arrond.; name, etc.
I used one's menu, chose three courses for a dinner party!

SuzeC, thanks for sharing the restaurant website. It's very helpful as many times you hear about specific restaurants and don't have a way of knowing what their menus are. This way you get a good idea.

s4842, The Hotel D'Aubusson is a charming 4* hotel in a great location. It is a quick walk to the right bank across the Pont Neuf bridge. The standard rooms at the hotel are quite small, with a kind of "minalimist" decor. The superior rooms are larger of course. I have only stayed in the standard room and it was fine. The staff are friendly and speak english.

have you picked up the zagat guide for paris restarants? it's both helpful & fun, and you can look at it by arrondisement too

I second Le Bistrot de Paris -- classic French cuisine, impeccably prepared.

I second the negative opinion about Les Bookinistes. We were very disppointed. If you like mussels, Leon de Bruxelles on Blvd. Ste. Germaine is great. We were very impressed with another seafood restaurant at the corner of Blvd. Ste. Germaine and Rue Cardinale Lemoine. I think it is called Bistro Cote de Mer.

I agree with Rotisserie D'un Face at 2, rue Christine Tel.43.26.40.98...6th district. I've been eating there ever since it opened over a decade ago. It was highly recommended by a French hotel manager friend of mine who lived and worked in the 6th.

For steak and frites (that's ALL they serve), Relais de L'Entrecote was excellent. The decor, however, is nothing to write home about.

About Le Rotisserie d'en Face: that's where we had one of our two disappointing meals in Paris over the course of a week.
