Any Fodorites in Paris now (18June08)?

Bonjour de Paris, y'all. Absolutely superb weather for a visit at the moment - 70's daytime, 50's at night. No throngs of tourists yet, though there seem to be a lot of elementary school groups.
Lots of manifestations around town protesting the cost of gasoline; on our arrival Monday AM one had traffic from the city in the direction of CDG backed up for miles. No problem inbound - taxi on meter from CDG to Bastille area ran 48€ plus tip. SNCF agent told us today that Versailles is closed due to a strike all week - crap! My niece will be so disappointed if we can't get to Versailles.
If any Fodorites happen to be here and would like to have a spontaneous GTG let me know.

"manifestations ..."

French is seeping into your head, Seamus, and isn't it great?

Enjoy your visit!

Anselm

What a pity! Missed you by just a few days. Enjoy - I'm eating my heart out!

Seamus, have a great trip! I wish I would be in Paris around now, but alas, my indentured servitude (thinly disguised as work), prevents me from doing so.

Take her to the Musee Jacquemart-Andre:

Blvd. Haussmann, Metro: Miromesnil or St. Philippe de Roule, daily 10-1800. Be sure to eat in the dining room turned cafe. She'll love it!

ARe you lucky enough to be in town on the 21st, it is the Fete Musical and the streets will have many street bands and performers out all evening to celebrate the first day of summer. Enjoy!

Just came back from Paris a couple of days ago. The day I was at Versailles there was a 'limited' strike as there were fewer rooms open to the public. I wish I had known that when I purchased my ticket.

Have a great holiday Seamus.

Ansel - my head is extremely porous.

Ronda - yep, he J-A is one of my favorite museums and is on the list

bozama - we will indeed be here for la nuit blanche, and plan to spend the day wandering from one performance to another.

kiddo - while we were at gare du Nord today to pick up next week's Eurostar tickets I thought I would just re-check at another Transilien kiosk. The very friendly agent told me that Versailles was not closed and sold us forfait loisir tickets for Sunday.

Hi Seamus, Sorry if I confused you. I didn't mean that Versailles was closed but when I was there last Thursday, one of the staff mentioned that there was a limited strike that day and unfortunately some rooms would be off limits to the public. For instance, the Dauphin’s Apartments were not available to tour.
