Any experience with Hotel Le Colbert?
 

Last time we were in Paris, we saw this modest hotel near the Notre Dame being refurbished. Can anyone provide us with a "heads up" and an e-mail address?

That hotel was always reviewed favorably in guidebooks, espec. Cheap Sleeps in Paris, before Melia ownership--it was not modest but at high price end of the 3-star range, I believe. I did see it on the web just other day, just stick "hotel melia colbert" in search engine. I think it may be on digital.france.com/hotels, also

Stayed at the Le Colbert about 11 years ago. Had a small, but charming room with a view of Notre Dame (requested the view). I heard they have refurbished the hotel recently so it may be vey nice. It is kind of pricey, I think. At the time, the staff was very nice and there was a FANTASTIC restaurant across the street from the hotel (one of the best meals we had in Paris).

I believe there are 3 of them now with this one on rue de l'Hotel Colbert. This one was always a favorite restaurant of ours but the last couple of years they've had their problems with a steady stream of different managers. We may try one of the others in October. The restaurant is just down from the hotel on the corner facing the river and Notre Dame. We had a fine meal there for about 165ff (plus wine) each.

Pat-Honestly, I can't remember the name of the restaurant across the street from the Le Colbert. It seemed like a charming little cellar and think it may have been about the only one right across the street. I did go back to Paris last year and discovered that it is still there and still looks wonderful. Didn't get to eat there last year though. I had a fantastic apple tart for dessert. Really, one of our best meals.

We stayed here on our honeymoon in 1997 &amp; again in 2002. The rooms definitely had been upgraded since our honeymoon &amp; so had the price. Our last room was beautiful though with an all-marble bathroom with robes, fancy toiletries, towel warmer, etc... The location is fabulous, very close to Notre Dame &amp; equidistant from several metro stops. Breakfast was the same as in 1997, but now you had to pay for it &amp; we deemed it to be too expensive with so many cheaper cafes open for breakfast nearby. Our only complaint occurred on the last night of our trip - our air conditioner went out &amp; the room got way too warm to comfortably sleep. Opening the windows made it worse, since the weekend noise was loud. The night clerk was not helpful in the least, basically shrugging his shoulders when we asked for help or another room. No one ever even apologized. It wasn't the way I wanted to end the trip &amp; unfortunately will probably keep us from going back.
