Slated to join Schengen.

I thought it was clear enough.

Yes - Fra_Diavolo said the UK was also not part of Schengen. She never said the UK was slated to join the Schengen countries so it's not clear what flanneruk is objecting to.

Both Fra_Diavolo and flanneruk are saying the same thing, that the UK is not part of Schengen and not slated to join.

What's the objection?

I'm still trying to think of a response to the Belch statement. I'm speechless!

We need cold to make this really funny.

This doesn't make any sense, why would someone want to go live in just any country for 6 months, just because they could? There is something really fishy about this request. And if you can in the UK, why wouldn't you do it there, then?

You can stay in Georgia up to 360 days without a visa if you are a US citizen:
http://www.mfa.gov.ge/index.php?lang_id=ENG&sec_id=96

That's not exactly Europe, sort of what they call Eurasia. I can't imagine why you would want to.

Appears to have misread the period as a comma.

I think moving around could be more fun than staying put for six months. But the request isn't fishy to me. I am also trying to figure out something similar.

And I misread Fra's comments similarly to flanneruk.

I am. Fra Diavolo is saying precisely the opposite

What part of "Also of course the UK and Ireland. Romania and Bulgaria are slated to join Schengen" are you unable to understand?

And how is it possible, as Fra whatevershe'scalled now seems to be claiming, to pretend that sentence is anything other than uninformed claptrap?

Read it again, flanner. I provide a list of non-Schengen countries. Then a sentence fragment: "Also of course the UK and Ireland." Note that this fragment ends with a period. I then continue (new sentence) "Romania and Bulgaria are slated to join Schengen, but are not now members."

It's bad writing on my part, but bad reading on yours.

And someone with your obviously superior education -- Eton/Balliol? -- ought to recognize my sex from the gender of "Fra."

Flanner, the ultimate pompous @ass, apparently can't read properly.

In 33 replies I still don't seem to have an exact location LOL.

I will be staying in the UK for 6months and would then like to move to another country in Europe for another 6 months. I am an online student, so while I love experiencing new countries I would also really like to stay put for a few months at a time to focus on my studies while discovering a new country...

Fra_Diavolo crossing the border between Croatia and Italy might be fantastic, if it's not a long journey.

I have 2years of studying, so I planned on staying in the UK for 6months, then moving to Europe for 6months and then repeating the process...

Again I have a SOUTH AFRICAN passport!

Moving around every 3months adds a lot of money to my budget, so that's part of why I thought about staying longer. It also interferes with my studies. The tourist part of me would love to do it though!

Fra_Diavolo as far as I understand moving between England and Scottland doesn't help me, I only get to spend 180days in the UK, if I am wrong about this I wouldn't mind moving between England and Scottland/ Ireland. I guess what I'm asking here is could I go to Ireland for 6months and then back to England for another 6months?

It doesn't have to be Schengan, I would just like to be in Europe!

I would love to see Russia, but apparently it's really not safe to travel there at the moment.

Fra_Diavolo I have googled every country that you mentioned and all of them have a 3month rule. Guess I'm searching for something that doens't exist outside the UK.

I would like to stay in Europe if possible. I have just read that the Isle of Man apparently has a 6months travel visa, but I'm still not sure if the Isle is part of the UK and if my going there would count as being outside of the UK.

It looks like you can do it for Moldova, but I would call their consulate in South Africa to verify that. http://www.mfa.gov.md/entry-visas-moldova/

You can stay in Turkey for six months but you will need a residence visa.

You could go to Ireland for 90 days (you can stay for longer than 90 days but they will want you to get a residence card: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en..._national.html) then into the Schengen Zone for 90 days.
