Any dry areas Germany, Austria, Switz?
 

We have been having an abundance of rain here and the 10 day forcast for areas in the Alps regions looks to be rain thru next weekend. Is this a massive rainy system covering a wide area? Once we arrive in Munich on June 25 are there any less rainy areas to head to?

Low pressure in the balkans results in rain coming from the south/north east. Intensifying the closer to the mountainsd you go. Pretty common, can last one or two weeks at last. The further west and north you go, the better the weather will be.

It is totally impossible to forecast the weather in the mountains for more than 1-2 days. And even that is usually less precise than in the flatlands.
If the Alps are the weather boundary, you can check places like Lugano (CH) or Klagenfurt (AT) on the weather forecasts and may find sunshine while places like Salzburg or Munich report constant rain. The Southern rim of the Alps usually is sunnier and warmer.
For the Northern part, this mixed weather with rain, showers, and sunshine is still quite normal. You won't see it on the pictures of the tourist info websites, though :-)
The only "dry" part of Germany is the Northeast, e.g. Berlin, where already the Continental climate with dry, hot summers is relevant. Upper Bavaria is a pretty wet spot in comparison.

This pattern happens frequently in late winter, resulting in masses of snow in the alps and also was responsible for some of the the summer floodings in Austria and on the Elbe river.

So let's hope it moves and doesn't stay for too long!

Thanks Logos and Cowboy. I keep putting in cities and Berlin came up sunny. I have heard good things about Berlin from friends but my husband is not a city person.

I tried Lugano and Klagenfurt and they look wet too.

Well, I checked out Colmar, France, and it looks good from the 27th thru the 29th.

The low pressure systems centre is over Croatia right now, supposed to move further north.

We made a short stop in Strasborg once but Colmar is on our itinerary for September. The Alsace region of France is suppose to be lovely. Some German influence mixed with the French.

Means the further west from Munich you go, the better you're chances are. Württemberg, Switzerland, Colmar should be better. While Munich, upper Bavaria, Austria aren't as good. Or you go quite a bit north to at least Franconia and further north.
However, this is what is forecast today, who knows if the weatherman is right?

Right now, the forecast for the area around Frankfurt and Wurzburg is not good for the 27th thru the 30th.

But as already stated, who knows what it will really look like next week!

Havy! snowfalls above 1700m in the Austrian mountains, new snow even on the Wendelstein mountain south of Munich in the next days.
Sigh - Isn't this the first day of summer?

The northern side of the Alps is notorious for lots of rain in May/June.

Well, Stuttgart doesn't look any better than the rest of Germany! Neither does Heidelberg. You might have to go further west -- like Colmar.

Maybe things will change for the better, I can cope with showers but heavy downpours and poor visibility ....

Well, Munich has constant rain for the next 3 days, with the worst on Tuesday but improving on Thursday!
We had a thunderstorm at 8pm, but right now it's not raining, 50F.
