Any concerns leaving visible luggage in Rocamadour?
 

Hallo All,

I'll be passing through Rocamadour soon, enroute from St Cirq Lapopie to Sarlat. I was planning to stop for a few hours in Rocamadour to stroll the town and have lunch. There will be 3 of us in a Renault Captur type rental car. I assume we'll have to let down the back of one of the seats for luggage, and so there will be luggage visible. Is that going to be a problem? Any ideas if the public parking areas of Rocamadour are thief magnets?

It's not a good idea to leave luggage on view when you're away from the car wherever you are in the world. You could cover it with a blanket or similar, but it still points towards hidden goodies. If you have no alternative, then I suppose you pays your money.....

I would be very surprised to hear about this kind of problems if you use one of the regular car parks. If there were, they would be reported on Google maps reports. Which is not the case.
as an extra measure, when I don't feel safe about a place to leave the car, I check for broken glass.

Any major tourist location will present a slight risk. When I have had to do it (for example at the Pont du Gard), I made sure that I parked in a highly visible spot with lots of people passing by at all times.

I haven't had a problem of that sort anywhere in Europe. When traveling by car, of course there are times when you will stop and leave your car.

As it turns out, there isn't any visible luggage. All 3 of us have 55cm bags, and all the luggage fits nicely in the trunk of the Ford Puma we were given.

So sorry for being silent so long. It was a chaotic first few days of travel, with one of us being severely car sick, causing major changes in plans. Things have settled down now, and we are enjoying St Cirq Lapopie!

I always back the car into a wall, tree, or lamp post so the back can not be physically opened.

FTOttawa, thanks again for your good wishes! Sadly we missed the Chemin de Halage ... we missed a lot but really loved all that we saw. I'll probably post a trip report in the next few days.

Yes, Stu, that's a good plan. But if you don't know the parking area and don't know if there will be a convenient wall, tree, or lamppost at an empty spot, you may want to just get more info for decisions. As I noted above, it wasn't needed.
