Any Christmassey

My husband and I will be in Paris 11/27 - 12/1 and we are wondering if it is too early for any Paris holiday events?

The Eiffel Tower will be probably lighted up (we were there at that time in 2003 and the tower had the blinking lights show every hour on the hour). The windows at The Samaritaine were decorated and there were beautiful Christmas ornaments for sale.

Viajero, I believe the blinking lights on the Tour Eiffel are year round. Also, I believe that Samaritaine department store has closed for renovations.

By the end of November you will be able to see many holiday decorations in Paris, including the large department stores--but you will find that small shops and restaurants will reflect the season. The Place Vendôme usually has an enormous "tree" made of wooden framed covered with fir branches, and the "ronde" at the bottom of the Champs-Elysée has decorated trees. The ice-skating rink near the Hôtel de Ville might be open, and last year there was also one at the Eiffel Tower.

The Christmas decorations should be up.
Yes, the tour Eiffel has permanent white lights which flash on the hour every hour.

La Samaritaine is closed for renovations, BUT the restaurants are open (but the observation deck is permanently closed).

The champs Ely. should be decorated by then and the animated windows at Printemps and Galleries Layfayette should be up. Check to see if the organ concerts have started at Notre Dame and St Eustache (les halles area).

I'll be darn :-D I really thought the white lights and blinking show was a Christmas thing!! Go figure. Also, the Samaritaine windows were very nicely done, although to be honest, so far nothing I've seen beats the Christmas windows in NYC! Soon enough.....

I know some aren't fans but Rick Steves has a new European Christmas book and DVD out.

They just aired the DVD on PBS, and it included a feature on Paris. The PBS airing did not have enough details on dates and such, but I suspect the book has much more of that.

If you want to preview it, perhaps your library will have the book for checkout.
