Any Canadians having recently travelled to Ireland?
Hello!
We're excited for our upcoming trip to Ireland next month!
Cash is king, so we plan on using the ATMs in Ireland to access our funds from our bank cards. We bank with CIBC and TD Canada Trust.
Have any recent Canadians used their bank cards in Ireland? Any problems? Better exchange rates??
Thanks!

There is nothing you can do about exchange rates if you are withdrawing ATM cash. What you pay for euros will be a couple of percentage points higher than the published rate. However, Canadians face fairly stiff fees for using plastic in foreign locations. Your bank will charge either a flat fee or a percentage for the transaction (read the fine print.) Cash is king, indeed, so withdraw a large amount to smooth the flat fee out and forget about plastic for individual purchases.
